What says in description: “For each (number) mana you spend you have a 1% chance to gain Clearcasting, making your next Arcane Missiles or Arcane Explosion free and channel 20% faster”. But trough testing i discover what “Clearcasting” works only with offensive spells what affects enemy targets (like slow, polymorf, antimagic, nether tempest, arcane orb and others).
It does not work with Blink, Prismatic Barrier, Arcane Brilliance and Remove curse.
I dont see a reason why this spell dont work as it described. I think that must be fixed.
Also would be great if “Clearcasting” worked from mana spent by absorbing damage by Prismatic barrier with “Mana shield” talent, because that would give that talent at least some use.
If clearcasting procced from everything, you’d have some weird playstyles like spamming arcane intellect before pulling a boss until you get a proc. Doesn’t sound like fun design, if you ask me.
Coldshade, you can still have “weird playstyles” by trigering it by Arcane Explosion so there are no reason to not to give clearcasting from everything. I think restriction to offensive spells is a bug, becose in legion it was restricted to offensive spells becose of different mechanic of arcane missiles. So someone forgot to change that. Or why alse there are no mention of restriction in description?
Defensive spells are spammable out of combat and DPS-greedy mages would stop their raid from pulling until the arcane intellect gives them a proc. Hard to do the same with an arcane blast.
You can only get one proc of it, so what if you spam it before a pull. You’re losing mana to do it. Shadow priests can get their insanity up to void eruption by shielding people before a pull.
This is a very good point! Justice for mages!
If you think it’s a bug you should report it though in game bug reporting tool.
It is possible that it is not mentioned in the tooltip for clarity’s sake, just like many tooltips say “nearby” instead of specifying exact range of various splash effects. (Not that I agree with the philosophy, but it’s what Blizz has been doing.)
