/click command refuses to activate buttons with macros on it

According to many webpages I should be able to call a macro from within a macro by placing a macro on a button and calling it from within a macro with the /click ButtonXYZ command.

But when testing this the click command only worked when there is a single ability on the button. When I place a macro on the button nothing happens. Is this as intended or must there be a mistake on my end?

Blizzard intentionally made that change in 11.0 so you can’t chain together macros and bypass the, now enforced, 255char macro limit.

I forgot to say that Im playing classic. Did they change it for classic, too?
