Clicker to Keybinds PvP issues

Hi guys, I’m a lifelong clicker (I play since 2006). After some time as a hybrid, a week and some days ago I decided to turn 100% to keybinds to improve my gameplay (I’m getting older and slower with my mouse, plus keybinds are considered the all-around better choice). So… Now I have all abilities bound with a logic and in PvE and Random Battlegrounds I’m doing just fine or even better, being always among the best Dps-wise… however when it comes to arenas, despite CCing and interrupting better, I do far less damage than before and when under pressure I often press the wrong keys, resulting in me dying like an idiot. What can I do? Just practice? Does a “keybind trainer” exist?

As someone who levels a load of alts… Just keep playing and using all your abilities, it usually takes a week or 2 to learn them good enough to use in your sleep. And by all abilities I mean that, play outworld PvE like it is the most dangerous thing ever, ie. don’t let normal thrash monster cast anything, use defensive cooldowns etc.

Across alts and characters i usually keep my bind "groups the same e.g. Q always being interrupt, 8 being the stun, E being purge, F being heal, R being aoe etc.

Simply just keep going at it. You’ll improve over time and gain muscle memory.

I type in all my binds in a spreadsheet and compare them between all my classes and specialization to make it easier

It also makes it easier to see what binds I missed and what should be there

Just do it gradualy. Add some more keybinds and then play for few days with those until you become comfortable with using them. At some point they will become your muscle memory. After that you just repeat the process, add new keybinds. At some points you’re gonna have everything you need. Just feel out what feels the best for you to press in a given situation.

The easiest keybinding to get used to (wich i did) is keybinding 3 skills to your scroll button, its always in reach. and you only have to use scroll up/down/click scroll button to use something. Especially works well if you kind some mouseover macros to those buttons like:

/cast [@cursor] Holy Word: Sanctify
/stopspelltarget

#showtooltip Flash Heal
/cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][]Flash Heal

Now you can cast things just by hoovering over someone with your mouse, and if you dont hoover over someone it will just target whoever you are targeting. Then if you feel like it build up some other macros like that but put them on your normal skillbar that uses 1-0 buttons. Or if you have a gaming mouse( i dont sadly) then you probably could keybind most your important things to just your mouse

For years i avoided it because it sounded confusing to me, but its basicly just copy pasting a macro from icy vein and changing the skill name in it, and it makes thing so much more easier.

I use a mouse with a full numpad on the thumbside, allows me to bind active abilities to 1/= and shift+1/= which are then easily accessible buttons on the mouse because the thumb is otherwise not occupied when using a mouse, I then bind CDs to Q/E/R/F/G/V and shift variants to cooldowns
I’ve never needed more then that

I’d advice that you play with what you are comfortable with.

Overall keybinds are better, but that doesn’t mean a clicker can’t be better than a keybind player, find what you are most comfortable with and there isn’t a rule that prevents you from mixing both.

If you really want to go for full keybind playstyle then I’d advice to do it little by little, just know what ability " feels " like it should be in which button, and if it doesn’t just click it until you find a perfect spot for it.

For the healing role it does miracles and makes things so much easier, the same for melee classes as you cant click things as well when you have to constantly move. Ranged dps can easily get away with clicking tho, if you know how to keep your distance

I’ve always used my keyboard, much less chance of missclicking. I actually dont rebind any of the original bar slots. I tend to have general abilities on 1234, CC/snares on 5678, and healing on 90-=. Then I simply rebind my action bars above the main one to Shift 1234567890-=. Any abilities with big cooldowns I arrange to my liking on my shift keybinds.
I can actually play without a mouse entirely.

Thanks for the ton of answers. I have bound my abilities to 1-2-3-4-5-Q-E-R-F-T-G-X-C with shift modifiers (I have shift+A/S/D bound to arena targets since I mainly move with the mouse now). I bound spells positions based on use frequency/need of fast response. I decided to turn to keys cos I recorded some arena fights and noticed that I was losing because I was slow clicking targets/some spells and staring at action bars prevented me from seeing, for instance, where that damn druid ran to heal himself… I’ll keep going then, despite some hilarious arena deaths ahah!

8- thats loooooong finger.
