I’m not here to cry about queue times, disconnects and such…
But i wanna cry a bit about the game’s optimization in 2022
and how bad it is for me and my fairly outdated PC.
This 3.4.0 “WOTLK” client is nowhere near actual Wotlk in terms of game performance…
The client doesn’t seem to handle well any heavy “mandatory” addons such as Questie, not to mention Carbonite which is in the heavier category and totally ruins the fun for me, making the client and the addon itself spiky in areas for which the Video-settings acceleration is missing and in general, which is to be huge part of the problem.
Talking about Video-settings, half of the actual Wotlk 3.3.5 options such as Water quality, NPC / Environment distance / General view distance which i believe even your Retail still contains… are missing, making it impossible to accelerate which leads to poor performance compared to 3.3.5 which runs smooth as butter for me, even with higher Video settings.
Why do you have to do this to us, Blizzard ?
Why do you have to make such a big deal out of a 15 years old game, turning it into some big deal and making it unplayable for people who otherwise have 0 problems in private Wotlk ?
Why all the fuss, why all the Addon updating effort people have to put for your new client that is gona change nothing in terms of gameplay rather than few new eye-candy visual features ?
Just use a 3.3.5 client and call it whatever number you wanna call it, save the bullcrap for yourselves.
Oh yeah and if you could also work on that Auto - Random/Specific Dungeon Finder, that would be great and not make me feel like playing all alone after i log after 10k queue. It’s a great balancer for solo players who can’t handle people screaming nonsense in their ears all day.
may i ask what pc specs you have? WoW Classic was rebuild on modern architecture so it can facilitate more people and newer tech (such as Dx12 for example).
I dont have a top of the end PC and i have literally 0 issues with performance.
I got one of the first i5’s with a tweaked ASUS AMD 7770 which has nothing to do with original 7770 in terms of price and performance…
I mean, bro it’s nothing special but if i can’t run a 2008 game …
Save some $$$ and buy an RX580 4G 2nd hand (<=$150), it will solve all your problems, that’s what I did. Also make sure to have discord/skype…etc closed while you play, they drain a lot of cpu while idle.
Any GPU that supports DX12 will be of big help to you.
Thanks for the advice, dude, but if that was the case, i wouldn’t even think of starting a discussion.
If i just bought a new PC component and keep it quiet, how many more people who could enjoy the game, will not, because they can’t affort anything more than Blizzard’s subscription ?
Why would you require a 2020 PC in order to play the previous decade game.
Simply because the game evolves with each expansion, it grows bigger in effects, in content and in size, which on the other hand means that if you want to play - you need to upgrade.
Same goes with Crysis or Call Of Duty for example. Would you be able to play “Modern Warfare” on your old toaster which could run the 2nd and 3rd edition? No, of course not, but you don’t end up on their forums whining about that, do you?
Im not trying to play Retail or anything that offers constant new content.
Im trying to play a 2008 Expansion for which content is already finished and if you offer me just visual upgrades in your Remastered version in exchange of me not being able to run these visual upgrades or the game at all, what’s the point even if i wanted to make that exchange ? It’s a lose/lose situation.
And yet again we came to the same conclusion. This is not the WoTLK that you remember in 2008, this is a completely “remastered” a.k.a “Classic” version based on the new game engine which requires new hardware.
Why can’t they run the old “3.3.5a” game client? Because it cannot run on the same “server” side, the “opcodes” the game uses to communicate with the server are different, the interface and services are different, you no longer have LFG… should I go on? No, it’s not needed.
My recommendation would be to just go back at private servers, save €13/month and when you get a new GPU - feel free to come back.
present wotlk is not a 2008 game, same thing with classic and classic tbc, it’s utilizes shadowlands client i guess, but nothing wrong with it for me, optimization is… i’d say fine
lets be real, you gotta buy better pc, take your time, get some money, but these topics are useless, there is no companies in the world that going to utilize old tech to satisfy some poor guy
Oh well, my bad then, nobody told me i’d have to run a Shadowlands client masked as WOTLK and all that hype. It’s a feedback topic, it’s not a request-to-blizzard or anything forcing blizzard to change their ways the same way they force me to buy new PC.
But i wouldn’t mind if they gift me a PC to run their game while i pay my subscription… oh wait is that any different ?
