strong textTLDR: People chat what they feel based on what they see and experience. If a BG is won. Nobody is angry. If a BG is lost, people get upset. Actions speak louder than words.
WoW’s community is not toxic when it comes to communication.
There are 2 big factors in play here that make people mad.
nr 1: Most players are really bad. Thats an objective fact and not surprising at all when the game doesnt encourage you to get good before max end game niche high lvl dungeons and raids.
Nr 2: players that try hard and are super tired of losing or failing this and that because of player mentioned above in Nr 1. We play to win. We try mega hard. We play support. We hunt the EFC. And if we are all alone trying to play the game right… we get frustrated. Thats normal. We’re not toxic for it. No matter what defeatist minded players think to excuse their slacking and bubble of ignorance.
Culmination = Elitism and players that complain about being called out for being really bad at the game and finding it absolutely wrong and horrible to be called crap when you dont hit healers, dont interrupt, dont hunt enemy flag carrier, or bother opening your eyes to watch important things in raids or mythic +.
Toxicity is a word thrown around so often but its always thrown at people that say bad things.
WELL WHAT ABOUT…the actions of people that sabotage the fun of others? is that not toxic too? What about us who pay to play this game to have fun only to see clueless self righteous players that think they are god and they can do no wrong…but in truth they are god awful and haven’t got a clue how to play at all.
Is that not toxic?
People complaining about toxicity and reporting people who get mad in chat should really take a good long look at themselves before assessing what is toxic.
Because there is nothing more toxic in my book then seeing people at 120 in 380 + gear that have no remote idea what to do, how to play, and dont bother reading chat either. This isn’t a wow problem either. its EVERY single multiplayer game ever. Especially Smite. You play bad there ? You will get called out and even reported for being crap at the game.
Unlike in WoW where you get reported for trying to win… its unreal.
WoW is toxic…when it comes to how well or how horrible you play this game. And no matter how many bans or silences, it wont change.
People get mad. its human nature. Especially so when we see someone extraordinarily awful at the game yet they partake in content that require teamwork.
If you do this… and you dont want to be called out for being bad? Then dont play bad. Dont be bad.
Otherwise. You’re the problem. Not the ones of us who attack you.
We’re not toxic.
YOU…are.
Btw. I know some people are new to Wow and that I wont hate on. But when I see people that have played for years and are geared and still play bad… there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with calling them out.
All games are about winning. If you disagree with this mentality, whilst the game literally incentivises you to win in these specific circumstances, then you’re a problem and you’re pure poison to the game and the players that try to win.
I felt this needed to be said because all I read whenever I swing by is people that cry about nasty words or being called out for X things.
WoW has a far bigger problem and thats Nr 1 I mentioned above. Blizz should encourage players to get better EARLY on.
There are people that dont even know they have interrupts, revives or Bloodlust abilities in their spellbooks…yet run around high gear.
This is the true toxicity problem in WoW. Its NOT players reactions to it.
