I struggle to accept the logic behind current collection implementation and would really appreciate any constractive input to help me deal with it.
Does everyone find current method of adding items a best practice?
Also, I am very curious to know if “The collection devteam” acknowledge, that this system of adding items is very punishing for new and returning players?
My personal example: in my case I was not able to deduct that general rule is not enough: “What is green or better and can be equipped goes to appropriate armor type section of collection” and my 60 k gold mail gear, instead of being added to collection ( and be available for my Hunter and her use only ) ended up a 3 gold garbadge items for my Death Knight.
How is this system not overcomplication and great benchmark design?
P.S. I know i am responsible for not reeducating myself on a details since Cataclysm and don`t take me as a victim. Gold comes and gold goes.
So if you want transmog /collect unlock you have to get it on class you want it for you can loot leather/mail/cloth on DK but they will not count to different armor types. You will get collected/unlocked skin/appearance for character you have get an item for example if i get cloth chest on mage and it is not just for mages i collected for rest cloth users too.If i get leather item on mail char even i can wear it it will not count as collected for my leather wearing char same for weapons.I think this is how it is working.
But why this leather item ( if it is from Auction House ) cannot be unlocked for leather wearing classes ) if i equip it on my mail char?
Isn`t collection bound to the whole account?
You can only unlock a leather piece in the collection if you loot it on a leather-wearer. Same goes for cloth, mail and plate. And weapons. The stats don’t matter, just what type it is. Tier sets are obviously limited to class, though, so unlocking a priest tier set would have to be done on a priest, for example.
I guess it’s to keep things more or less equal among all characters, if characters could unlock every item they can equip, warriors would be collecting heroes and clothies would be trash.
This is why I’m trying to level one of each armour type, so I can just mail the BoE items to the correct character and get the looks on my collection.
This is something I’m neutral on, I don’t think it’s good or bad. I personally wound’t mind if plate classes could unlock every non class specific gear, but it’s also not something I see as a problem. Tmog depends on your class’ armour type, so if you can only tmog a particular armour, it makes sense to me that you can only unlock that armour type.
If you buy an item from auction house then it will be BoE so you can send it to your leather wearing character and unlock it on that leather wearing character.
I can see why, you are an active player and know all the requirements. Sure, I agree, it is not a rocket science and makes sense for the class equality part.
All I wanted to point out is that a new or returning player ( like me ) can easily mess it up.
System is not fool proof, i am a life example.
I have learned my lession. Next time I plan to do just as you described here.
It would be extremely unfair if plate users (who can equip all gear) could collect all gear sets and cloth users for example (who can’t equip anything else) would be left behind.
It’s a very simple system…
Cloth classes collect cloth armour
Leather classes collect leather armour
Mail classes collect mail armour
Plate classes collect plate armour
Weapons etc are locked in a similar way that they are specific as to whether or not your class can equip them.
I agree that it sucks and I’ve also done the same mistake on my first character after I’ve returned (equipped a mail BoE hood from Legion on my DK and wondered why I didn’t get the appearance when I created a hunter), but it’s there to keep things more or less even for all classes.
If it wasn’t for that, warriors would’ve been the ultimate class to farm transmogs since they can already equip every weapon except for wands and warglaives, and with that change they’d be able to collect all armor transmog appearances too since plate wearers can equip all four armor types.
