hey there, as a rogue i’ve on several occations experienced doing my rotation and using vanish out of habit and not getting adds, having some system that made adds kinda linger 1-2 secounds after vanish would greatly help in many situations like this, its a small thing but can affect so much
While that might seem like a good idea, it also works directly against the design goal of the ability. Vanish is primarily a defensive tool, it is meant to give you a way to get out of combat instantly. Due to how strong attacking from Stealth is, we have learned to use it offensively as well, but that is more of a bonus, not the main goal for the ability.
A change like this would have massive implications for PvP. Making Vanish activate seconds after pressing would mean you couldn’t rely on it to get you out of combat, to get access to Stealth. If the issue were only to get to use Stealth abilities in the middle of Combat, there’s Shadow Dance for that.
There’s also the issue of feedback from using abilities. It generally doesn’t feel good to press a button, and have to wait for a long time for anything to happen. It’s much more engaging to have your actions directly translate on screen at the moment you decide to do something.
Personally, I’d rather have a reliable way of getting out of combat whenever I need it, than have it work only occasionally. Vanish is buggy enough, without adding intentional lag into it.
I feel like that’s a too complicated change
Traditionally, when a monster is unhappy with you it sets you in combat as well. So, if the monsters were to wait for a bit before they go back to reset once you vanish, how exactly should it work for the combat? Are they still in combat? If not, what happens to their health then, since out of combat monsters tend to get all their health back save for some special cases. If they still remain in combat, does that mean that you also remain in combat when in stealth ? That would be super, super odd. Sometimes, you want to vanish and immediately connect with a mount cast or something to get away from large aggro. Especially in situations of World PvP where you are for instance running away from a hostile player, and while you are out of their range you happen to get the attention of a few monsters in your escape. You’d like to maybe step/hook on a far unit, immediately Vanish or Shadowmeld and immediately cast flying mount to then fly away. That change would essentially ruin that
That seems very convoluted as there are so many corner cases for such a change
