Hey there, lately i got an itch to play wow again and thought about leveling a new character on SOD. I am a very casual player who stopped at the end of phase 2.
Would like to hear a view opinions from people playing sod right now. Is it worth it? Is pvp still a oneshot fiesta? Can i even catch up at this point? Thank you <3
It’s def gonna take a few weeks to catch up. Especially to unlock PvP gear as ranking up is capped so you can’t rank more than 3 rank per week.
As for PvP, it’s still maddeningly imbalanced, although in BG it’s less of a OS fiesta since we have buff stam and reduced damage/heal. But Wpvp is all about the first 3 globals.
People are gearing very fast so by the time you get to max level you might hit the alt wave or get free loot if you join a guild and raid consistently. I highly recommend joining a guild though. The Pug community can be frantic.
Im enjoying SOD, but I dont play it that frequently or take it very seriously. Pvp is still rather unbalanced. Some dps classes have a bit too many instant dps kek buttons. Leveling zones may be a bit empty, most ppl are focussing on endgame. Endgame very casual friendly tho. Lots of ways to catch up with gear and there are plenty of chill raids if you like casuel pve.
the good part right now is that ever y spec is viable and you can lvl very fast with the xp buff, you find pugs for zg all the time, you can pug everything and i’ve seen some semi-guild runs even for black trial.
if you’re interested mostly for pvp - imo - the only class i’d stay away from is warlock, UNLESS you really like demonform, since if you like as i do cc’ing and nuking it’s not really working other than now and then a 1v1 - you’ll be taking alot of dmg otherwise
rets - despite the doom and gloom you can read from few posters here - are solid but to make the most of them you need tier1 and i’ll leave it just at that for now
shamans- inbefore this thread turns into “shaman op nerf shaman” go ele or go home and even then a skilled player will ruin your fantasy
warrs have potential with tier1 set
mages good as fire and still very strong as frost + with zg set make an interesting play as frost healer
hunters as ranged with lockand load kinda broken
boomkins are solid and you can see the armor now with astral form if it’s important to you plus it’s the only class you can play as any role if you ever get bored
BUT my favourite is still rogue, but i may be a little biased here because i like to stunlock. you experiment a bit with the classic 21/8/22 or 21/3/27 if you ever played that and go from there, keep in mind backstab rune, shadowstep, sebaceous poison with imp expose armor exist in SoD - add this phase trinket from zg. you can experiment with sf daggers and with the ring from coins and vigor might make a good play sacrificing some defensives.

Pve is ok, but pvp is worst thing i ever played in my life. Shaman, hunter, rogue, balance are total op. Rogue killing ppl in first stant. Shamn can kill couple of ppl, hunter can drop 1k traps on you in short time with insane burst dmg. No comment for balance drood dmg in pvp, with 7k + armor and hp. Pvp in SOD is big SHMAME of bllizard company. If you wanna play pvp dont waste your mony and time in sod.

Guess i will start leveling and see how much i like/dislike the pvp. Hope it doesnt bother mee to much.
Is there a way to catch up on runes? Remember some as hard to get when going solo
well maybe i didn’t point it out, that i think you should mix things up even if your main focus is pvp, it is classic after all, i was not trying to keep you away from lock per se, JUST saying you will have a lot more success going demonform than not and imo you have to like it(i don’t)
rolling a warlock is a solid option for pve, now they can tank if you like that and you’ll always have a spot in pve either spec
as for catch up on runes there are some bound on account items from the coin vendor, but i think you have to have already cleared that content and then you’ll be able to buy the equivalent rune on an alt
