Just experienced something I completley forgotten about WoW. I started a new account on the EU region due to moving. It’s my 1st character on this account and altough I am not a new player, I’ve never done true end game content or even raided outside of LFR.
Today, at lvl 53, I joined a PUG for Necrotic Wake. Clearly not mythic. I didn’t waste time, I didn’t wonder around, I joined in every fight and even before the first boss I get kicked at the request of what was clearly a very very good and acomplished player. The reason? Not enough DPS.
I don’t have friends who play, I go trough the content solo and always am in PUGs. I didn’t ruin their sacred raiderio score, I didn’t hog a DPS spot on purpose. I even have hekili installed since I wanted to get used to my rotations and I was not slacking on it. Doesn’t matter…I didn’t have end game gear on, I wasn’t up to their standards, I didn’t deserve a spot in the coveted random LFG.
Sorry for the rant, it just rubbed me the wrong way. I am literally where I am supposed to be in order to LEARN the game. I know I’m bad, but that’s ok. I’m trying to get better. If not in an LFG under 60 where else? I always get the itch to come back to WoW, and somehow I always forget about this aspect. It’s nothing new. I doubt it will change.
Guess I’ll just stick to watching YouTube in order to get better. That for sure will help more than actual practice /s
MDI sets the bar for how some think the game should function and some people live by those examples set there even if it’s not M+ because low dps = waste of their time which is somehow much more valuable than yours.
Im not saying wow has good comunity .
Im not even gona say its nice towards new players . ( but i gotta admit i havent seen a one apart from my friends which i lured )
But once again, there is a post with “unjustified kick” with totaly one sided story .
I get it, its a normal leveling dungeon and whatnot, whats the point of kicking right ? But kicking someone for doing low dps could be anywhere from doing as much dmg as tank to doing less than healer cuz its a leech.
Realy, there has been like gazilion of posts like this already and it has nothing to do with new players imo.
Sure, I get that. I’m not saying that kicking because bad isn’t justified. I just think that kicking in dungeons under 60 is a new low and it does more harm than good. Especially before the first boss. What can one even deduct from that?

This just shows that this issue is not getting better. LoL managed to remove some toxicity maybe Blizz can find a way also. Posts like these will continue until us noobs leave the game or something changes. And when we leave there will be only the tryhards. I don;t think there is anything wrong with pointing out something wrong within the community, even if it gets repetitve.
I’m sorry, I hate it when it happens. Especially when it’s new or learning players.
Unfortunately some people simply enjoy ruining other people’s fun.
I get what others are saying on how there could be reasons, but there could also very well be no reason at all.
I’ve had people explicitly and unapologetically tell me “I kick or flame because it’s fun.”
I maintain that thankfully most players aren’t like that, I’d even go as far as saying our community is pretty cool, the vast majority of us just want to have a good time and aren’t psychopaths, but the toxic ones will always be more than enough to spoil the experience for everyone else.
luckily i have been playing for 3 weeks now and havent experienced any such behavior yet . i have seen some people rage quiting because the healer was not healing well or tank not doing good job handling trash mobs .
also to op such experiences and things might come up but they are not as frequent as you think they are .
It’s weird. WoW has given me some of the best gaming moments and some of the worst. I’ve met people here that became IRL friends and everytime I put the sub down I get an itch to come back. This is my second run at Shadowlands and the same issue pops up. I honestly just feel left behind the curve. People will always be toxic to an extent but I truly believe that this xpac the mechanics really facilitated this toxicity.
Glad you are having a better time. I’ve been playing casually since TBC and in Shadowlands this has reached new heights (or at least it seems like it to me). Honestly the only solution which I see is jut to find a guild.
This is hoenstly the best advice. A guild will be more lenient and also teach. It’s difficult to commit as most of us know, jobs, family, etc. but as I see it it’s kinda the only way if someone is picking up the game so late in the xpac.
Yeah jobs etc etc can make it harder, however more casual communities and guilds can be quite low maintaince.
Also ironically although can be abit more rigid in terms of scheduling ironically it tends to cost less time, you would be suprised how much u can do when not stuck on waiting on groups etc etc to access content.
Ive just returned to the game, i quit 3 odd weeks into SL and yeah defintly mid expansion it can be quite hard.
First of all it was not any of those you mentioned.Just an ego elitist kiddo.A good player understands that you do not have the experience to actually have decent dps.And furthermore in a normal Shadowlands dungeon which is “Nothing”.He probably wanted to be mean to anyone so he found that excuse to do it.
Probably you did not Aoe (or have talents for aoe) when they pulled packs. That is the most common scenario.or you may lack some rotation for abilities to be more effective.Stats at 53 can not be decent no matter what.
Ignore the incident and if you dedicate some time you will get better.
There is an addon called Hekili. It tells you what buttons to press on a rotation against single target / multi target. Using it will have you do better dps than 90 % of players in normal dungeons. The addon is of course far from optimal. Sadly, Rogues also have some of the worst damage in 50-60 dungeons in my experience. Still, would recommend the addon to new / returning players.
That being said, never let anyone victim blame you or try to convince you that kicking you was okay or acceptable. You should never, ever, have to watch youtube vids to do lvlling dungeons. Anyone who tells you this is a deranged and awful human being. In fact even commenting on someone doing ´´low´´ dps, in a NORMAL dungeon is absolutely deranged and borderline psychopathic behaviour.
This sort of experience happens all the time and is not unique, I´ve lvled loads of alts, and on almost every character where I do dungeons to avoid the boredom of Shadowlands leveling. I experience someone getting kicked for no reason by some toxic player. I even had someone kicked just because they were Spanish, and kicking the person would be hilarious? Mostly it´s people being kicked because they fail the Necrotic Wake hook mechanic though.
The playerbase gets a LOT better when new expansions and patches launches. The players that return are a lot more social and much kinder. Right now it´s mainly the humorless addicts and ill (clinically) people who play WoW, and they sadly don´t have the energy / temperament for kindness.
I wish you well in your journey to find nice people to play with. It definitely is possible!! I advise guilds / discords. The pug community will improve immensely once Dragonflight launches, until then you are in for a rough time in leveling dungeons, so definitely worth it to find nice people if you want to play in S4.
Gonna leave this here - can highly recommend Scared of Dungeons community, ive been part of it for about 3 years now and love it.
About 5-6 weeks ago, i was hovering around the +5 mythic levels- i bit the bullet and started going higher (which is a huge thing when i have low self-confidence). Im now doing 10-14 keys when im online, so if i can do it, you certainly can…
I can provide several accounts from personal experience, and several from new players I’ve interacted with. Whaddya want, narrated videos with multiple sworn eye-witness testimony? DNA evidence?
It happens. Far too often.
Ummmm. Yes and no. It can happen to anyone, but new players are far more likely to be disoriented, go the wrong way (which in my experience is the most common trigger for a kick vote), not have their rotation down or their gear up, and to lag behind the party because they’re looksing around and not used to the pace.
New? Naah, kicking in levelling dungeons is a time-hallowed tradition.
Got that right!
Pretty much that. Personally, I’d permaban the kickers and the Blizzard staff who don’t fix the incentives to be impatient jerks in random groups.
You are not entitled for people to accept or want you.
A lot of people just want the path of least resistance, and if something is slowing them down or they feel like you are not “Good enough” they will just remove you as a part of their gameplay session.
I would never kick someone personally, unless they are clearly afk.
