Computer Repair or Game Repair, game damages hardware? please help?

ty, hehe probably already halfway downloading now, but good to know for next time I wanna try this

True they are lower power , but reading on it the issue is caused by the wattage which is basically in the same space as the laptop variants . I see no reason why one 13/14 gen that is pc and the other that is laptop to not have this issue .

ā€œThe elevated voltages could potentially affect any 13th or 14th Gen desktop processor that consumes 65W or more power, not just the highest i9-series chips that initially seemed to be experiencing the issue.ā€

And yea I get what they explain about the different cores being better suited for each task . Fact is you are purposely creating distortion in the architecture . You are essentially trying to squeeze two different types of CPU’s in the same system . There were motherboards with two cpu’s in the past too . There is a good reason why these were abandoned .

Maybe I am wrong but I like uniformity . It is easier to understand , easier to code for and easier to use . It lets you freely interchange everything without thinking . When you have different cores that do different things you need to account for that , and that is basically giving yourself a headache for nothing .

Remember the time when every single phone had a different charge plug even though all of them had the same power requirement . Providing uniform platform is good .

@aprix that actually explains allot of things for me. I love reading stuff like that.

On a different laptop which had high temperature issues (extremely mysterious and long story, 3 entire motherboard replacements incl gpu&cpu, and they coulden’t fix the issues 3 times) I tried undervolting as a last resort, I remember vaguely. But it lowered fps and performance even worse for me. But I had no idea what I was doing so I quickly set it back to normal. That laptop is now R.I.P. anyway.

I would never try messing with those settings on my new laptop.

Remember to copy over your WTF and interface folder. Those keep your settings and addons. However I’d hold on until you can see it crash or wait long enough for it to be stable.

I’ve undervolted my 14700k desktop processor. It now runs under 90C at 100% load but I’m unlikely to do anything as intensive as Cinebench R23 but overall lower temps means less power drawn.

You’re not going to break anything by undervolting; the worst that’ll happen is it’ll get unstable and crash. When it does crash, up the voltage by a little and keep doing it until it’s stable. My 14700k runs stably at 1.255 volts at 100% load rather than the 1.4-1.5 MSI use. Intel do say it’s okay to go to 1.55 volts.

My brand new laptop was disconnecting from WoW a lot, where I discovered through an hour of Googling that WoW does not like IPV6 Protocol internet and so I had to find a guide to bring it down to IPV5. It fixed it. Try that.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL THE INFO AND SUGGESTIONS, THE ISSUE IS THE EXTERNAL SSD

It has become obvious. I eneabled all optional graphics features. installed addons.
And I can go through endless loading screens.
Dungeon in out, travel from zones, hearthstone, teleport and use endless portals.
Never crashes on internal ssd.

Only crashes on external ssd when loading.
Only in WoW tho.
Other games work fine on external ssd.

Hope I can still use this external ssd for WoW, so I’ll try check it for errors and optimize the drive.
Then do a scan and repair one more time. And if that doesnt work, then also redownload and reinstall the WoW game alltogether.

I am just glad this is not my computers fault nor an issue with the WoW game.

So thanks again everyone, I really appreciate all the kind help, suggestions and info.

And customer support was right. This is an hardware issue on my part. But I have no idea how they knew this. I guess they have received 50 error crash reports from me perhaps.

So thanks to customer support also.

Good day.

Careful with your accusations.

Standard MMO customer service reply: it’s you not us.

Try it with another USB port. WoW might expect a fixed disk for some reason, who knows.

Solving your issue will take a complicated and time consuming process of eliminating possibles. This is how you find the culprit.

After reading your text i cant rule out a hardware fault even though your issues point to softrware only.

Easiest thing to do if the laptop is new is to send it back for a return and refund. Start over.

If not start the costly affair of replacing one thing at a time and test. You could be in the ballpark of a whole new laptop by means of all brand new individual parts bought one at a time if not careful.

This is why shops are good. They have spares on hand to test.

Computers are essentially pieces of leggo. Swap out.

I would start with replacing the memory with a known good one and test. Then the SSD/HDD. It is really rare that the CPU is faulty.Rare.

One thing you might consider which i am sure has been mentioned here is to check vents and make sure the thing is not over heating by means of clogged vents or a stopped fan.

You could open it up if it is an old out of warranty thing and re-apply thermal paste to hep make sure it is not a over heating issue.

Unless people have no choice i do not recommend people play games on laptops. Not only are desktops cheater but you get to decide the hardware.

The very first thing i would do however is to scrap that install of the OS. Wipe the drive. If an old HDD write all 0’s to the drive and wipe it. Then reinstall the OS and see if it behaves like it should. If so start adding things till the problem shows up.

Good luck. Fixing computers is a bit like police work.
