Concern Regarding Potential Technical Issue Leading to False Bans

Dear Blizzard Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing on behalf of myself and other members of the community who have recently experienced account bans during the Classic Anniversary event. The ban reason cited was “unauthorized cheat programs (hacks),” but I want to sincerely emphasize that we did not use any hacks or cheats.

What makes this situation particularly difficult is that many players affected by these bans are unable to access the forums to share their concerns or appeal. This has left them feeling voiceless and frustrated, especially since they have invested significant time and passion into the game.

While I understand and respect that individual account actions cannot be discussed on the forums, I believe this may be part of a broader technical issue rather than isolated cases. It’s possible that the detection system or related processes have flagged legitimate players in error, resulting in these unintended bans.

We kindly request that Blizzard investigate this matter to ensure no one has been unfairly penalized. Providing a clear process for those who believe they were banned in error would help reassure the community and restore trust in the system.

Thank you for your time and for your continued efforts to provide a fair and enjoyable gaming environment. Your dedication to fairness and transparency is greatly appreciated, and we hope to see this matter resolved soon.

Thats because Blizzard don’t allow the discussion of account actions, specific or general, on the forums.

The process is very clear, and explained in the email that the banned persons receive when they are informed of the ban. It’s a very simple process too, you just open a ticket under the “Ban Appeals” category.

Thank you for your response. I understand Blizzard’s policy regarding the discussion of account actions, but I’d like to clarify why this situation feels different for us.

We’re a group of nearly 50 players who have all been banned while simply playing the game normally during the Classic Anniversary event. None of us understand why this happened, and the emails we’ve received seem to be automated responses that don’t provide any meaningful explanation. Many of us are not familiar with the ticketing system or how to navigate it effectively, which makes it even harder to address the issue.

We’ve been sharing the responses we’ve received on Discord, and they’re all identical. This makes it feel like we’re not actually reaching a human being who can review or investigate these cases individually. That’s why we’re hoping to bring attention to what seems like a broader issue, rather than isolated incidents.

I appreciate your input and hope Blizzard can look into this matter more closely.

Blizzard has never given specific reasons of the kind

“On x of y, of year z, our software determined that you were running an external program called shiboleet (no thats not a swearword, mods, its a fake word coined by XKCD many years ago), this is a contravention of our terms of service…”

As this would make it too easy for people to work out how to avoid their hack detection systems.

They have only ever given the most broad and generic explanations. I doubt this is going to change in the near future.

Thank you for the clarification. I understand why Blizzard may not provide specific details about what led to the bans, as it’s important to protect the integrity of their detection systems.

However, we’re not asking for information about specific software or programs. Our main concern is understanding how to ensure this doesn’t happen again to us or others in the future. At the same time, we just want to resolve this issue and regain access to our accounts.

We’re genuinely confused, as all we were doing was playing the game normally. If there’s any way Blizzard can provide guidance or review these bans more thoroughly, it would help us a lot.

It’s frustrating to see that while legitimate players like us have been banned without understanding why, bots still seem to be active in areas like Blackrock Mountain and Felwood, farming with green items without any apparent consequence. This makes us question if the detection system might have misidentified us while missing those who are actually violating the rules.

We’re not trying to challenge Blizzard’s policies but simply want to ensure that fair players aren’t penalized unjustly and that the system can better target real offenders.

Ban discussions aren’t allowed on the forums, as it leads only to wild speculations.

You’ll only receive a “check your own PC and our terms” answer on that. There are more speculations on how players get banned, like for example sharing a work PC with gaming, or using AHK but there is no definite public list or such as Trovlak posted.

Your only choice is to appeal. If a more thorough investigation is warranted it will be opted by the GM for a secondary review.

Edit: I would like to add that several unbans have been confirmed on the US CS forums. So it is possible that a false positive occured.

I still’d recommend to appeal again.

Ban discussions are not allowed on the forums. Anyone banned can submit an appeal ticket and it will be reviewed accordingly. Please follow the forum Code of Conduct: https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/000256989
