I’m thinking about coming back to WoW for a bit and play with a friend who has only played the starter edition previously.
Now the article about RaF states that RaF can only be used on accounts ‘newer than 30 days’.
My friend has never bought gametime but has played the starter edition about a year ago once.
-is a starter edition older than 30 days eligeable for Raf?
-do I need the latest expansion to get the RaF rewards or is a level 110 subscription enough
-does my friend need to buy complete edition or BFA or do they need just the lvl 110 subscription for us to benefit from RaF
-does buying a 3rd month of gametime for the mount reward mean 3 months actually bought or does it include the free month from complete edition?
-does gametime bought from external vendors locally count for the RaF rewards 3 months?
Sorry for all the questions but the article is incredibly vague and unclear imo
You can recruit a friend who does not have a World of Warcraft account or who has an account that is fewer than 30 days old. Players who created an account more than 30 days ago and are returning to the game are not eligible unless they create a new account.
That wording seems pretty clear to me.
If your friend has only a Starter Account, it will be no big deal for him to create a new WoW account for you to invite.
@All: There is a possibility that the wording is a bit misleading. I have not used RAF in a LONG while, so the following is a bit… experimental…
I think (and I admit that I can be utterly wrong here) the wording is supposed to mean accounts that have had game time applied, because it speaks of returning players.
So, IF I am correct, things work like this:
If the person being recruited only has a Starter account, the age of the account does not matter (since it is not possible to exceed level 20, even if the Starter account is two years old).
If the person has already applied game time, it must have happened less than 30 days ago.
If my interpretation is wrong, I apologize in advance. Good luck to all! bows
If that was what it meant surely it would say any starter account not an account less than 30 days old. Before this, a starter account had to be less than 30 days old to be RaF’d. I’ll refer you to:
Note: The link period can only last until 90 days after your friend’s account was first created. For example, if your friend created their Starter Edition account 15 days before you invited them using the Recruit A Friend feature, the account link will last for 75 days.
but isn’t that just for the extra XP gain and teleporting?
Pretty sure you can still use RaF and get the rewards no matter the age of the account, as long as the person haven’t added gametime/bought the game for that account?
Could have been changed since i used RaF.
I think i did that with my own account when i had no friends and used RaF on myself.
@Dottie: You are very likely correct in light of that additional note… I got slightly misled by the first quote’s “more than 30 days ago AND are returning” part. Because the use of “AND” implies that both conditions should be true. A person who has played 31 days in row is not returning in the sense I understand that word. “Or” would have made the phrase clearer.
No, all the stuff stops 90 days after the starter account is created, did you read the quote from the link I made earlier?
RaF has always only been on an account, any account, that is a maximum of 30 days old.
I’ll drop this here too. It’s not showing all the post. Part of it is asking about an account that is older than 30 days, an account that has not had any gametime added.
Then i have been confused too lol. I might have added a new wow account to my Bnet account then. I was just pretty sure i did use the starter edition i already had, But it’s also years ago i did it, so my memory can just be garbage
I ended up asking a blue to be sure on the process because of contradicting answers.
Basically they said that the current account is indeed NOT eligeable for RaF as it is older than 30 days.
However you can use a new WoW license, under the same account, to use the RaF on. Essentially this creates another WoW account instance on the same log in account, if I understand this right.
There seem to be a bit of confusion around the requirements and eligibility.
Dottie had so far the best definition - thank you for the explanation, greatly appreciated. Want just to confirm it here.
Starter Edition older than 30 days will not qualify for the Recruit a Friend invitation. However invitation should try to create a new Starter license if there is no eligible license that could accept the invitation at the moment. Limit is indeed at 8 licenses yet in case of Starters, they can be removed (not possible for the complete license of World of Warcraft that is not Starter anymore).
you do not need the latest expansion to get RaF rewards. You do not even need active subscription to accept game time rewards (they are added automatically), however you need to have your game active to send the invitation.
your friend doesn’t need Battle for Azeroth for you to benefit from RaF
it does include the Complete Collection game time. It counts for the 1st month out of 3. The one that does not provide any rewards just yet (2nd and 3rd do).
gametime bought from external vendors does count, however in case that there is any issue with the game time codes you got to deal with the vendor that sold it. So it may often work, yet Customer Support won’t be able to help if the code won’t work or will be revoked at later time because of the payment issues. In other words it is not 100% safe to do it this way - depends on the vendor.
