The game constantly freezes the entire system, the screen turns to black and then after a while it recovers. Or it doesn’t and you have to cold reset your system. Or if it happens two or three times back to back it leads to a BSOD indicating “POWER_SYSTEM_FAILURE”. The issue is exacerbated by using DirectX 12, turning all the settings to the maximum and enabling CMAA 2 & MSAA x8, while leaving FPS uncapped. It can happen anywhere and everywhere, at any time. Sometimes constantly, sometimes you get lucky and go an hour or two without crashing.
The issue is very widespread among AMD GPUs as is corroborated by the many, many threads both in Blizzard’s forums as well as AMD’s and of course, on reddit. These have mostly been ignored and we’ve had just one blue post last year recommending we switch to DirectX 11 and lower graphics settings. The issue has gone unadressed since November 2023 at the very least, that I’ve owned my 7800 XT. The 24.5.1 AMD GPU drivers mentioned fixes for World of Warcraft but the issue is anything but gone and seemingly has only gotten worse either with the latest drivers (24.7.1) or with pre-patch. It’s very hard to tell which.
Blizzard, can you pay some attention to this issue? Is this something that’s being looked at? Can you collaborate with AMD on this so we can finally enjoy the game like we’re supposed to? The past year has been very miserable for me, despite building my rig with much excitement after saving up every penny for this. At the very least, if you intend to treat AMD users like third-class citizens, at least let us know so we can resell our cards and switch NVIDIA or Intel hardware.
The issue has gone on for way too long without being fixed and having almost zero communication about it throughout all this is just insult to injury. It’s just utterly unacceptable to leave a certain handful of your users treated like garbage.
