- We already had a level squish, because it got out of hand… but that is temporary solution
- When you level up right now to 70, you still have to do campaigns, so it’s mostly campaigns that matters, and not actually the level (if you finish leveling sooner, you still have to do the campaign), so why have it increased just for sake of increasing it?
- admittedly the level starts mattering for alts… but then again, you either level by chores you do on your main (world quests, side quests), or by campaign that you already did - both of those are boring… third way is dungeons… but most fun for most people come with difficulty, which comes at max level (doing same dungeons)
- leveling feels lonely in MMO… it doesn’t in classic, as it matters there (it’s a journey)… but retails is crafted in a way that leveling is not a journey, but rather an obstacle
blizz doesn’t make any brave decisions since forever. they don’t take risks anymore probably because community doesn’t like anything new but also about them not knowing what to do. i’m sure they think about the stats squish in midnight too and say ‘‘well is this how it’s gonna be ?, squish every few expanssions ?’’ but i don’t think they have any answers.
exactly. that’s why they sell ‘‘raid-ready boost’’ they know it sucks but a big portion of playerbase wants to instantly start raiding / doing keys and these days that part of the playerbase is getting what they want. if leveling is bothering you , just buy the boost !
Haven’t we already had this discussion at the start of dragonflight?
Well they are a profit based business so I do not see this changing anytime soon and we will need to live with stat squishes for now.
Levelling was and still is the go to for most MMO’s. The only thing I would like to see changed is the “free” boost you purchase with any new expansion being that to max level . That way you can quest and do campaigns at your own pace and time and have the choice if you want to do the story or not. Obv for alts you will need to go to the store.
every. single. release.
since the Burning Crusade
i get what you are saying. but i would add that if the level cap never goes up then players like me who use massive alt army’s to abuse the economy would just get more and more powerful
We need levelling every patch, either that or some sort of borrowed power system that takes as long as levelling to make viable, and we all know how much people love borrowed power…
It is a journey. It has quest-lines and a story, while you slowly explore the nook and crannies of the new zones.
On raid ready boost you mean the boost we have in the shop?
That one is always capped at 10 levels below max level. So far I only remember max level boost rolling out somewhere in the last tier.
no they’re selling enhanced level 70 boosts on shop right now with 424 ilvl gear 20 renowns etc. like the pre order boost
Yes, which came in when the pre-order was introduced.
Up until that point the only boost we had available was capped at 60.
yeah but also ONE YEAR before the expansion ends, mind u the expansion released a year ago so it’s in the middle of its lifespan even if it’s the last major patch
I think leveling is important is the part where you take a journey, not just instance spamming.
In wow this experience is ruined, because they focus too much on late game.
But what about presentation?!
All wow has to show is cool locations and massive world.
My friend who i wanted in this game couldnt see any top level players doing top level things because they all park in valdrakken doing absolutely nothing.
Force top players to come to old zones allow new players to see them and think “wow people seem busy doing things here, cool things”
It got better with dungeons being away from main expansion but we need MORE!
Better why not force top players to go to a location and lead new one there too? And change the meeting location every season!
Leveling is about presentation and journey wow has none!
The boost is always increased this way towards the end of expansions.
I’ve even had one boost I’ve bought increased cos the following week they put it up to max level.
Levelling is the most tedious obstacle in Classic. It is a slow boring slog to get to max. Now this comes down to personal preference but give me retail levelling any day of the week.
The essence of classic levelling is literally to send you different place to mob grind.
I like levelling as a mindless activity but I do agree that constantly increasing the cap is very old school and they should move towards other permanent and account wide systems to “level” like champion points in ESO. 60 is a fine cap. Perhaps they will do that at some point? Who knows.
I also prefer my levelling to be lonely, although it is less bothersome now you can just help people about without even talking to them. It kinda annoys me in Classic and always did in Vanilla that people just want to team up with whomever they see for everything - I want to go my route at my pace.
I like that each time a new Expansion comes out having to do the level grind at the start.
I would rather they ditch the compulsory campaign quest lines, and have the levelling questing experience more open plan at the start of the expansion.
The way the Blizzard handles story telling nowadays is worse than it was in the older days.
yep i also remember a topic going on about the exact same stuff
the campaigns are fine, as long they don’t hide important content behind it like some daily zone or raid wich makes it tedious for people to do it again with alts
Oh yeh, if they need to have a campaign, at least make it accessible. Putting it behind 19 renown was a silly idea.
