Convoke while tanking

Hey guys, started trying my hand as a Guardian recently, and was after some advice with using Convoke the Spirits. Instinct tells me to pop it at the start of the fight to allow maximum time to cooldown, and also boost early dps/threat. But should I be saving it as an emergency tool?

Obviously it’s slightly subjective according to what you’re up against, but a general rule?

Thanks

I don’t know how it works on Guardian exactly and what abilities it procs, it can be bit random at times and you might risk your neck and not get what you want in risky situations.

It’s mostly thrash getting stacked to 3, moonfire, selfheal, mangle, swipe etc.
In a big pull I would pop it instantly, to get the bleeds rolling asap. I find it more usefull on trash AOE than on say a boss for instance.

Yeah, loads of value in there. I never regret hitting it. I guess it’s just weighing up if I want the bleeds now, or the heals later.

I find it useful for threat generation - gathering packs and/or adds, so tend to either use it at the start of a pull, or when things start getting messy. CD is short enough to use frequently.

I have popped it when getting beaten up, but it tends to be too unreliable to use defensively, in my opinion. Sometimes it’ll heal you up nicely, but not always. Maybe a last resort type of thing when everything else is on cooldown.

Agree it’s better for trash than boss fights.

Where I tend to use it is
A. A throw away dps increase and rage generator, plus depending on covenant can give you a large healthpool boost so good for your self heals.

B. Roar the party, get distance or when you wont take hits, go caster form and use it as an utterly insane party wide lay on hands effectively or make sure you have survival up if you are going to get small hits. you can out heal most healers burst for those 4 seconds, really amazing on the last boss on spires when your grabbing orbs

C. Casual content I just survival instincts, switch to cat and convoke dealing nuts single target damage before going back into my bear just after the instincts have worn off.

I noticed that it also procs a bunch of Ironfur so I tend to activate it when I’ve settled in a big pack of mobs and have aggro on everything.

I also activate it during boss fights for some extra DPS.

Having started a druid tank recently and using this ability its quite nice. Just jump into a pack and press it and they stick to you, on top of a full rage bar - almost.

Its just another migitation button to me really and helps the healer out.

It’s a nice spell with an use for Offensive and Defensive play. You get a %Health buff and Mastery buff (even more health for Bears) when Convoke is used. This you can use at start of packs to get the dots rolling and threat or use when in a tricky situation where you take alot of dmg so you can help mitigate it by increasing your health and increase your healing recieved with Mastery.
