Corrupted Ashbringer

So in Legion, it was deliberately corrupted by the HIGHLORD himself in cooperation with the Deathlord’s Four Horsemen.

Now I’m a little confused as to why on earth any Paladin, let alone Lord Maxwell and the Highlord himself would intentionally do this to Ashbringer.

Is anyone able to actually explain?
Otherwise the corrupted version should have been an appearance for Death Knights imo.

Because fanservice.
All other appearances of the artefacts are non-canon, only the first and base lines are canon.

Really? Sad, the upgraded appearance looks so bad, good thta we canonly destroyed this abomination.

We didn’t destroy them persay, we filled them with the corrupted energy of the sword and then they were taken back to the class halls and locked away.

Super powerful super weapons supercharged with superdemon energy, locked away by super trustworthy guys like the super warlock order… what could go super wrong?

Where they? Like Xal was in Stormsong and Azshara also have a comment if you wear the resto shaman artifact.

After the whole Tidestone affair i trust the Warlocks on some god forsaken demon world more than Dalaran and the Kirin Tor. They should change their Symbol from an open Eye to a closed one.

Yes, they were, as you see the lore NPCs in the background (during the sword draining), those weapons would have been taken back to the orderhalls.
It is up to speculation what happened with the others.

To be honest, would you trust half the orderhalls? DK, DH, warlock, rogue, they’re all shady with their own interests at the top of the list.

Either the naga stole the tidestole after KJ’s defeat, or the KT are inept.

The Horseman did some crap to it and suddenly you’re able to wield it in its dark state. Despite Tyrosis even being like “rather you than me m8”.

It’s not actually clear what exactly the horseman did to it.

I’m under the belief that the Artefact Appearance questlines are all non-canon.

In fact, in the selfsame questline involving the Corrupted Ashbringer, Prince Tortheldrin inexplicably comes back to life in Dire Maul for you to ask questions to.

It’s just a cool aesthetic, the entire premise that the Silver Hand paladins would go out of their way to intentionally corrupt one of their most sacred relics is simply absurd.

Exactly…I mean its the Ashbringer…It turns demons and undead into Ash in the hands of righteous believer of the light and is made with potentially the sentience core of a Naaru- the literal embodiment of the Light and a visual representation of your faith (for everyone except Tauren and Zandalari because ya know the Sun and Loa yaay)…

Why then would you corrupt it with unholy energies especially since it took a huge amount of effort to un-corrupt the blade…I mean it’s the blade that broke Frostmourne…How more powerful do you need it to be :man_shrugging:
