Who thought they’d make an effect that can increase your dps by 30% in some cases - ALL RNG
in my guild higher ranked rogue got benched over trial rogue, just because trial rogue had echoing void ( INCREASED HIS DMG BY 4,6MILIONS, and ALSO WAS THE BEST OF HIS DMG ) if the benched rogue had this corruption effect he would rise from 13th top dps, to SECOND TOP DPS. THE WAY CORRUPTED GEAR WORKS IS JUST BEYOND JOKE BECAUSE OF HOW RNG DROP OF THIS IS.
They got rid of titanforging because ppl didnt like rng, so they made SOMETHING EVEN WORSE that REQUIRE MORE RNG, AND IS WAY MORE IMPORTANT. What THE F
Thanks for coming to my ted talk
Yes, it certainly feels wrong to have a completely passive effect grant so much power, and having to hope to be lucky enough to obtain it in order to compete.
The only thing i hate about coruption is i get crappy % avoidance while some got his 3rd echoing void and os cleansing it now… This reminds me of legendary from legion, u are either lucky in begining and u shine, or u farm like mad till you get it to the point it doesnt realy matter…
leggos in legion were way leeesss annoying because you eventually would get it anyway, and it became best in slot. and in corruption system not only its all rng, but there is so many of them, you can get avoidance all the time, and even if you got your bis corruption, its not said you will have it forever because, oh you know you will get better ilvls
And you can hardly wear multiple pieces due to the corruption… useless.
There will be a vendor soon enough. RNG too of course.
We will all get good corrupted items over time, but yeah can be kinda annoying some people got multiple good items already ,and some none
Yea but the point stays, its both RNG, both makes you extremly powerfull compared to those who dont have their bis (or any at all)
I know handfull of people who quit just because they didnt get their top lego after like year…
It will take time to upgrade cloak that is what I hate. I am talking about timegated upgrades, I am here waiting with a rank 8 cloak and 3 vials unable to progress because boomers will feel leftout-behind.
I love Corruption. I think it’s wonderful.
It affects your gameplay directly, as opposed to just being some extra stats that amount to 0.01% extra damage.
It fosters a lot of item tinkering in regards to risk vs. reward. You want to equip all your Corruption items, because they’re so powerful, but there’s a risk of dying by doing so.
It’s visually stunning and fits thematically like a hand in a glove.
I mean, if you look back at when Thunderforged and Titanforged were first introduced, then those stat bonuses didn’t really have anything to do with the Throne of Thunder or Legion.
But Corruption really feels and looks inspired by The Old Gods, N’zoth and Ny’alotha.
And it actually makes you excited about getting new loot, because there’s that chance that you can get something that’s super powerful and awesome and…potentially suicidal to equip. It’s so much more involving and engaging than just getting more stats and more item levels.
So yeah, I love it, and hope Blizzard will build on this for Shadowlands. Imagine something as engaging as Corruption for every tier, each time inspired by the new zones and raids.
I’m not excited about loot, it’s a constant disappointment of not getting the performing corruption effects.
Hell yeah! some crazy builds can be made, its goin to be broken in month and two.Hopefully they will not nerf more,so everyone can make crazy stuff sooner or later
I’m not sure how constant it can be when we’re a week into the new Season.
I mean, the system seems designed so you’ll quickly accumulate far more Corruption items than you can possibly wear (safely).
So the cloak upgrade acts as the incremental buff to your character, as it lets you equip more and more Corruption items over time. And thus eventually – regardless of whether you’re being unlucky in the first week or two – you’ll end up with a character that’s decked out in Corruption items, having (Old) God-like powers.
But of course, with that progression mindset that some players have where it’s all about go-go-go and clear everything asap and collect everything immediately, everything that slows that fast-tracked progression and speed down is going to feel disappointing. But I think that’s more of a player and playstyle problem and not a problem with the game or the item design.
Also if something isn’t BiS, it’s often deemed as unviable and (vendor) trash.
I defo agree that corruption just made loot disappointing. It seems like a lesson from legion was not only not learned, but purposefully inverted to make it worse.
At least you couldn’t get duplicate legendaries and there was no tiers to the same legendary.
Corruption system just spits on any notion of skill to performance causality and just says “screw it, leave it to rng”.
Maybe more experience tanks will say otherwise, but i feel like having Any sort of corruption is a severe hinderance.
You’re tanking the boss/Trash, rescuing -That DPSer- and now, trying to avoid corrupted effects.
Seems like a pain
That’s the issue though. It doesn’t change the gameplay. The effects are all completely passive. You play the same as you would without the corruption. The only difference is that your DPS is higher.
Personally, I think that this system is good on paper, but in reality it is extremely punishing when luck isn’t on your side. I’m willing to wait a month or so and see if wat you say is true, but if it’s anything like the Legendary system in Legion was at the beginning, then I don’t think I’ll have much fun with it unfortunately.
I’m pretty sure the design lesson from Legion in regards to legendaries was that it was bad to have a system where it mixed performance legendaries with utility legendaries, because it sucked getting something that added utility (necklace) when you were looking for a dps increase.
But Corruption items are all performance oriented. If you’re disappointed, then it’s because you’re not getting your BiS, but that disappointment would inevitably exist with any kind of item design then.
I would strongly beg to differ.
I mean, the performance power it adds…sure, arguably you can just do your rotation as per usual and not think more about any of the procs or effects.
But the Corruption itself, that definitely has some gameplay-altering side-effects.
Yesterday I got some leggings that had +50 Corruption. But they had a really powerful effect (the laser beam one, can’t remember the name), so I of course equipped them. My total Corruption rocketed up to 75-80 or so. And although I was a God in terms of power and my dps was insane, I was close to dying every minute or two because tentacles and eyes and crazy crap was spawning all over the place intent to kill me.
That’s a cool risk vs. reward gameplay. You can have the extra character power if you want, but there’s a price to be paid. It’s a bit reminiscent of the old Corrupted Ashbringer which would drain the life of the wielder. Really powerful sword, but the power came with a price.
That’s cool design that impacts the gameplay.
Cant say I personally enjoy adding yet more stuff to deal with on top of plenty of other stuff I have to deal with in an instanced environment. I’ll admit that it is gameplay-altering however, but I’d argue that it’s highly debatable if it’s enjoyable or not. I guess our tastes differ in that regard.
Absolutely. But personally speaking, I’ve played WoW for 15+ year and I’m starting to get a bit bored with items that look like this:
+[primary stat]
+[primary stat]
+[secondary stat]
+[secondary stat]
That is boring. I have seen a million items that all fit that mold and it’s boring. I don’t care if the item has a hundred stats or a thousand stats, it’s still just stats, and that alone is boring.
For as big a role as items play in WoW, they should have more of an impact on the gameplay experience than just adding passive stats to your character.
So I like Corruption, because it’s new. And after 15+ years of boring item design, I appreciate new.
