Who came up with increasing the number of mementos needed each time you select a perk? Now that I’m on the weekly lockout of the cape quest it means its going to take 3 weeks for the next perk then 5 for the one after that then 8+ for the next one?
Why is current WoW content so grindy and gated? From a person who had 55 reps exalted in Wrath (exalted title)I know grind well, but this current grind isn’t fun!
Because it’s tied to helping you progress your cape, so is tied into cape progression. You aren’t meant to get the perks as the main focus, they’re supposed to be a support net to help you as you raise your cloak level. Also I already have 5 perks so they’re hardly slow coming at low ranks.
Because you gain extra momento the further you go ?
With lv2 chest i collecte close to 800 yesterday, meaning i would litteraly build half of the tree , also some trash from nyalotha drop them also.
Anyone would max it within first week if everything just cost 100 each times.
Is it 800? cleared out 3 zones and don’t remember it being that high, I’ll check next week then 
Some chest appear with the perk, collect them as you see them, it can give a lot.
It’s because the momento you get from visions scale exponentially as you go further in.
125 for the final boss, 150~250 per wing, ~30 per chest iirc
Once you get a full clear, every mask you equip increase the momento you get by +20%
Two zones + mobs => ~700 momento
Full clear + full mask => ~5000 momento (also reward gear 5ilvl below mythic raid quality fyi)
That’s the main progression system, moreso than the cloak imo.
How far are you in the tree tho ? Best advice for you would be to push your visions further, maybe in a party if you can trust your mates (visions are much more forgiving and time efficient in a 5man party than solo)
I saw a guy solo clear a full vision with 450 gear, no corrupted gear, rank 6 cloak and research up to the “gain sanity by killing elites” perk. So that’s doable at this point.
Of the top of my head 2nd teir x2 damage and 1 sanity extended or maybe x3 damage and 1 sanity extended.

The cost increases are very steep. After an extended amount of play you will be able to unlock everything but it’s going to take us a very long time to get there.
You should try to pug then, but just in case i’d advise you to do your weekly cloak upgrade first (would feel pretty bad if your pugged mates made you fail your upgrade)
Once you have your upgrade, finishing the vision do not really matter (at worst you miss on a piece of LFR~normal loot, which can be obtained in other activities), you should focus on getting as much momento as possible.
If you fail your vision you still get the ones from the bonus zones, the ones dropped by the mobs and 50 or 75 of the 125 from the last boss. No big deal imo, I usually push as far as possible.
Why? Why does Blizz do anything so backwards as they do today in WoW? FOMO. They want to keep you subscribing non-stop. That’s why everything is massively time gated and alts are limited in viability unless you grind like it’s your job.
