So I was toying around with involving the new gear stat ‘‘Corruption’’ into roleplay but it wont be handled in the exact manner as done in gameplay due to we will not run around with a legendary cloak stacking corruption resistance and so on.
So I was wondering if there are anyone else with similar idea/plan themselves and if so how are you planning on playing it out?
Me personally is going on right now with studying this new source of power and trying to find a way how to use it against the servants of N’zoth and as time go by likely see the pros and cons of using this new type of power.
In the end it seems to be a nice touch to add more ‘‘desperation and risk’’ in fighting N’zoth who is the first ever fully released Old God.
I mean the idea is to maybe use what would represent 1 piece of gear in-game so that would maybe lead you one small boon of power.
I think it is something that could be interesting going to explore but most likely in the end realizing it may not be fully worth the risk.
Here is the negative effects.
Grasping Tendrils (1 Corruption) — Taking damage has a chance to reduce your movement speed by 5 sec. The magnitude of the snare increases with further Corruption.
Eye of Corruption (20 Corruption) — Your spells and abilities have a chance to summon an Eye of Corruption for 8 sec. The Eye inflicts increasing Shadow damage to you every 2 sec while you remain in range.
Grand Delusions (40 Corruption) — Taking damage has a chance to summon a Thing from Beyond, which pursues you for 8 sec. Its speed increases with further Corruption.
Cascading Disaster (60 Corruption) — If you are struck by the Thing from Beyond, you will be immediately afflicted by Grasping Tendrils and Eye of Corruption .
Inevitable Doom (80+ Corruption) — All damage taken is magnified and healing received is reduced, increasing with further Corruption
Sounded to me like a pretty specific thing regarding the cloak and a direct consequence of grabbing that dragon scale in the quest line, then making the cloak out of it.
It’s not exactly a new source of power. There’s been void enchants and void-infused armor pieces for a while.
The cloak was crafted to target the Visions specificly, not the Corrupted gear if I remember the story correctly?
Nonetheless I do not expect many people to go into this nor using many ‘‘pieces’’ IC due to not having much ways to resist it but I felt like it was a good opportunity to try to grab some of the stuff into the roleplay.
If you want to go by game mechanics, the cloak increases Corruption resistance related to gear. I think it’s a little silly to use only the mechanical drawbacks that come with the armor (assuming you get it IC in some way) instead of leaning more on the madness side of things, which has always been the more interesting angle of the Old Gods.
I mean the ‘‘madness’’ part of it is indeed a natural aspect to be brought in as well but I was talking more regarding the cloak was crafted so you would be able to storywise survive longer within the Visions as it counters the sanity draining aspect.
As for the ‘‘Corruption gear’’ the idea is that these pieces brings stronger powers IC but for a price and the mechanics of the negative stat is merely examples of what could happen as you mentioned the madness aspect is also something that should be taken into account.
It feels too much like gameplay. I’d rather keep that thing away.
Otherwise, if you put something tainted -heavily- by the Void, then not only you’re a danger to yourself but to anyone around you.
Void Elves generally value control. Not just of themselves, but of the powers they now wield.
I could certainly see them experiment with items touched by N’Zoth, maybe even with the intention of putting them to use once suitably harnessed, but I don’t think they would make use of them at the drop of a hat.
The reckless “we’ll cross that bridge when we get there” mindset seems more in tune with adventurers and similar murderhobos.
The reason I suggest void elves is because they were willing to delve into the Void to begin with, despite the risk it meant both to their own persons, their stay in Quel’thalas, and even the survival of the Sunwell. They have a history of recklessness (and of pursuing dark power despite the risks and costs).
