Only a small one. Since 9.0 is many months away.
I think the only thing corruption has done well is reflect the themes of the patch in a way titan forging could not.
However from a gameplay, acquisition, balance, and design perspective, not to mention corruption resistance and cloak ranks, it has been a spectacular failure.
No sane person expects Blizzard to be infallible in their design, i think you misunderstood. Every sane person makes mistakes but they use it as lessons to learn something. Now, if you value your professional pride more than the result of your end product the result is what we see right now.
A corruption system that was supposed to fix the biggest flaw of the titanforge systems - randomness- by introducing another 3 layers on top of it.
But Blizzard are notorious for always talking about the “lessons they’ve learned” from something in the past, because they pride themselves on iteration in their development process.
In the interview the guy even asks Ion about what lessons Blizzard have learned from the World First race.
I strongly disagree. What we’re seeing now is iteration. Blizzard rarely scraps their designs, they iterate on them. That’s the “Blizzard polish”. You may not like what you’re presented with, it may not be your cup of tea, but this is traditional Blizzard design approach 101. They’ve had Warforging and Titanforging. They’ve iterate on the design in Legion in regards to the values. They’ve re-iterate again in BfA patch 8.3 with Corruption, and plan for another iteration with Shadowlands.
I think Ion has described this process as a pendulum, because they have a habit of going very far in one direction, and then they overcompensate by going too far in the opposite direction, and then finally they end up at a satisfying point in-between. The whole topic of pruning is a good example of adding a bunch of spells, taking them all away, and finally deciding on something in-between.
No, the chance of getting something proc on a WQ is much higher because they’re more readily available for farming.
M+ isn’t a reliable way to gear yourself quickly. Less items, less chances for any kind of proc and a lot of time spent.
That pendulum swung one way for three expansions and is by your own analogy only now starting to swing back.
Blizzard are also known for being notoriously slow and having incredibly long decision-making processes.
I mean, this is the way Blizzard does things. You either like it or you don’t.
You can always play some of the other MMORPGs if you think those game companies have design processes that yield better results…
Wrong. You don’t seem like someone who started playing after WoD so this statement is surprising. They had no problems to scrap systems in the past. Valor points, reforging, pvp vendors, class design, even in a way professions, they have scrapped so many systems over the years. The only systems that magically appear to be resilient for 3 now going into the 4th expansions is borrowed power and random systems.
To be totally honest, i don’t care in the slightest what Ion says, I only care about what he does, which most of the times is not consistent, as i said he has the credibility of a politician.
I guess my annoyance stems from the player response.
Guy asks Ion what he thinks about Corruption.
Ion says what he likes about Corruption.
Salty players on the forum goes:
“How dare you!? How dare you say that Ion?! That’s lying and you’re being dishonest by not admitting that Corruption is terrible, because I know for a fact that it is!”
I find that ridiculous. It’s like the metric for whether the developers are honest and truthful and credible depends on whether they say the things that people want to hear and are consistent with their own opinions.
“Tell me I am right Ion. Validate my opinions, damn it!”
So they are unable to ever find a middle ground? So they keep swinging like a headless chicken? Not even indie companies do that.
But that makes no sense in anyway whatsoever
No, I’m saying that Blizzard usually explores many options, both internally and post-release, before they end up with a satisfying design.
That holds true for all their games, and always has. Their games aren’t perfect on release. It’s the endless patches and expansions where they constantly iterate on the design that ultimately makes them a more polished experience.
That’s not admission of fault. It’s opportunity for improvement.
So in 15 years they have yet to end up with a satisfying design?
That’s simplifying matters.
Vanilla WoW and Battle for Azeroth aren’t the same. The item design in Vanilla WoW had to cover far fewer gameplay activities and compliment less system designs than the item design for Battle for Azeroth.
The needs of the item design changes as the game changes.
Well we sure did notice the nerfs …
I know this is empirical stats, but I’ve completed over 100 m+ runs, with a 60% chance of receiving an item from them. I’ve got a total of 1 corrupted item out of those m+ runs.
On the other hand, I’ve completed roughly 8 worldquests that provide me with an item, not counting emissaries. I’ve got a total of 4 corrupted items from them.
Now I don’t quite understand whether or not you’re saying that m+ has decreased chances or not, because frankly I’m confused by your statement of
Is the chance higher, as in the percentual chance of something corrupting, or is the chance higher, as in you loot more items so you gain more corrupted items?
Because if it’s the first one, my empirical statistics would support your statement, while if it is the other, they don’t, however I understand that there’s a very small sample size for WQ items in my case.
This is how it’s done… and boy did they improve their reviews from rock bottom to
sky high from listening to their players.
They rebuilt the entire mmo because they messed up pretty bad at launch - a process that should have taken 5 years got finished in 3 years.
ActiBlizz can’t even get one expac right.
Feel free to check reviews of BFA and Shadowbringers.
They got it so right with Shadowbringers that Actiblizz in Shadowlands have ripped Palace of the Dead off with Torghast, Tower of the Damned.
Most dont like it because your class doesnt matter anymore dps wise
Again, i’d love it if it was just the stat increasers like 9% more mast or 800 more vers as a proc ect instead of a beam that deletes everything in its path xP
Yeah, now after reading Ion’s interview he said that they are overall pleased with how the corruption turned to be, i fear that they could implement it in shadowlands.
