Corruption System Feedback

Hello,
my thoughts about the corruption system we have.
First of all, removing titanforging feels great. Its a step in the right direction.

I personaly like the corruption. Its a fun system where i have different set of items for different content. But there are a lot of problems with the system, and again like the essence system, its good but it feels unfinished and rushed.
Anyway we are almost finished with the AP grind and upgrading essences so i will not talk about that this time.
For me the biggest problem of the corruption system, is the way the corrupted items are obtained. Its a shock i know. We removed one RNG system and replaced it with another… in a way even bigger RNG one. The positive is now without titanforging and the missing master loot, trading items betwen guild members and friends is easyer.
The negative sides … yeah. The way corrupted items are obtained is absolutely frustrating and walled behind multiple layers of RNG.
First thing that comes to my mind here is. Is our developers forgot the biggest problems we had with the legendary items in Legion, and how they Actually fixed the problem in last patch of Legion. They added a vendor with currency that was collectable from different sources, where people could select the legendary item they want to buy. All the problems and the negatives of the Legendary system were fixed. And it was actually pretty cool solution.
I understand that adding a simple vendor with corrupted items will be dull and lazy solution, but there are many other things we could have gotten that would somewhat keep the RNG and the exitement of finding BIS corrupted item and also add some bad luck protection to the game.

Different ideas people and content creators have out there .

1.Storing and upgrading corruptions in an vessel (like enchanting vellum).

  • Cleansing corrupted item stores the corruption in a corrupted vessel of some sort for a price. You can use the vessel on a item of choice to apply the corruption.
  • Once stored, you can upgrade the rank of the corruption in the vessel, again for a price.
  • The currency for those actions could be something we already have (mementos) or something new that drops from other places not only vissions. Like the way we got legendary currency in legion (each boss kill, m+ chest, emissary, maybe a specific world quest.
  • It will keep the world content relevant. Even now people chasing the HP based corruptions on world quest items (i do), hoping to get twilight devastation/echoing void . Getting it on a blue wq gear could actually mean something. You can transfer it to another item you have.
  • Make an option to increase the rank of the corruption up to rank 4 for insane price. Collecting the currency for that would take a month or two, being timegated behind a raid lockout/m+cache etc. So people dont go crazy farming. But it would be a nice end of the expansion power gain goal for everyone.

Example - You finaly got your rank 3 infinite stars. Once you get enough currency… u store it in a vessel, upgrade it to rank 4 …and put it back on your item. Based on item lvl… you can chose your biggerst ilvl piece you have.

I understand that system like this cannot be made in 2 days, so we probably will not get it. But i think its a good idea for future reference.
The solution we could get is more like:
2. Increased the drop rate of corrupted items. By a lot. Let us have a choice. 3 layers of RNG is already enough so the exitement will still be there. Many people just ask for 100% of curruption on every single item. And i dont realy see why not.
Not like we can wear all of them .
I personaly have around 50 m+ runs (20+ on +15 in time). For all those runs ive seen 3 corrupted items drop. And none for me. Thats too low drop chance.

And the last thing i want to give feedback is the negative corruption effects. I personaly find them realy interesting. But playing with high corruption is unrealistc in harder content like mythic raiding and high m+ keys.
On the other hand we had so much laughter in heroic casual runs in Nyalotha with people running around being chased by 3 things from beyond and stuff. Its fun for sure. But in mythic more than 59 corruption is a no-no.
Overall for this patch with the N’Zoth and all the corruption theme… its ok. But if we get something similar in future. I would just prefer a set limit of how many of those powerful effects you can have without negative effects (like we had 2 legendary items available to equip at the same time in Legion)

Anyway, just a couple of thoughts. Feel free to disagree or discuss or add other ideas. All i want the game is to be best it can be.

My feedback is that Eye of Corruption penalty is unfair for melee classes.

I agree with most of what you said but i do have some nitpicks.
Firstly

What you said i agree with but replacing it with a system that only strenghtens its flaws is not a step in the right direction. Its good that we can trade gear again but the solution to the problem should have been to bring back ML or to just let players decide if they want to keep or give away the item even if its an ilvl upgrade not ā€œok you can trade but we added 3 layers of RNG and a single item can do 30% of your dpsā€.

I personally didnt have problems with the legendaries, sure you couldnt target them but atleast they where normal drops no inececary RNG on top of them and once you get one you were making progress to the one you actually wanted because you couldnt get dups. And i have seen both edges of said sword for example my DK got its BiS legendary from its 1st time but my pally got his BiS one last, i did main my pally back in legion but i never did feel the frustration i get with corruptions because i knew that i would get leggo sooner or later due to the rule of exclusion. Corruptions on the other hand are a whole different beast.

I personally am not a fan of the kiss/curse mechanic but to each their own.

i wish it gave dps reduction debuff on the contact and not hp loss, cause its another healer affix atm.

WTB some control over the ridiculousness that is the multiple layers of RNG on Corrupted gear… i.e. – RNG for drop, RNG to be corrupt, RNG to type of effect, RNG to Rank of effect (and RNG for Socket and Tertiary ofc)… rather obscene if you ask me…

How about some leeway to allowing players to have SOME control over it?! MOTHER can cleanse corruption, she should be able to store it as well – have a system where we use Mementos to transfer corruption from a piece of gear to storage (destroying item in process), and in turn we can transfer that to another piece of gear. Limited storage space and a moderate cost on Mementos…

Come on Blizz.

It would have been, if they hadn’t gone multiple steps in the wrong direction with its replacement, Corruption.

Even more layered RNG. Unpleasant visual effects. Your own gear trying to kill you. Frying Pan → Fire.

for warlock and spriest it’s even worse, you either gotta move losing 1-2k dps or let healer cry

The corruption system is rubbish. Benthic systems is a lot better and way more balanced plus it rewards hard work and allows you to plan your own upgrade strategy and only the socket / speed / avoidance is RNG based.

One is completely rubbish, the other one is just rubbish. Hope we won’t see both ever again.

difference is that you move out of it and keep dpsing, as melee you move out of it and just stand there waiting.

I hope that they do away with the RNG systems altogether. That way raid tiers actually have value again, reputations become more vital again and tier sets become something players want again and people can actually plan out what they want to do to gear a character without having to grind their faces against the same content again and again and again in the vain hope of getting a Titanforge/Benthic/Corruption proc.

Having the odd item occasionally come with a neat little effect like ā€˜has the chance of making your attacks do x% of fire/shadow/light/etc damage’ is great, that’s all it should ever have been. As it stands the Titanforging system and it’s descendants have done nothing but damage the fabric of the MMO gearing framework that made WoW the titan of the industry that it was, and is at this point nothing but a sad example of how Blizzard’s want of stacking RNG systems on top of RNG systems is turning the game into one of the most hardcore grind fests on the market.

In the short term though, this would be my feedback on the system:

Corrupted gear should NOT be rewarded from pre-8.3 world quests. It was bad enough that a world quest item could Titanforge and become the equivalent of Mythic raiding gear.

If the corruption system is to stay in as it is, then people need to access the cloak and the cleansing system IMMEDIATELY, with the option to bypass the entire intro chain being given after it’s first run through.

Cleansing an item should only require gold, NOT the Visions currency. A player shouldn’t be penalized for not having unlocked their cloak and ranked it when their world quest reward procs a rank 3 corruption talent that renders it unusable. The use of corrupted mementoes should allow the corruption being cleansed to become another Vessel to allow players more chances at doing Visions in exchange for the corruption stats of their gear, letting them choose whether or not they want to rank their cloak or deal with the negative side effects of using their corrupted gear before they can mitigate them.

Regardless of whether you like corruption or not. Can we all agree that it should be deactivated in PvP because blizzard clearly don’t have the resources to balance it in PvP.
