Cosmetic talent trees

Can this be a thing, please?

Hero talent trees sound cool but TBH they dont look like they are adding that much flavour, probably because of the difficulty of balancing spells between classes.

What Id like to see is a talent tree that had no effect on gameplay at all…
Just purely cosmetic options for spells/abilities. That way there is no need to balance anything and we can just have fun with it!
You could even start off with a very basic one and gradually add more options like with other customizations.
It would be awesome to be able to change spells to fire, ice, shadow, nature, etc versions.
Not to mention having versions that were race related as well. Maybe tribal music or floating tiki masks if a troll/Ztroll uses a certain ability or clanking sounds and static electicity if its a gnome/goblin for example.

(I know we have Glyphs but TBF they are deader then archeology at this point!)

That would be super cool, I would love to have more of content in this direction with truly no effect other than visual

I’d rather have real hero talents.

Not normal talents named “hero” just to make you think you’re cool.

Not cosmetic talents to make you think you look cool, that’s neither content nor a system, that’s basically a toy.

Actual “Hero” talents.

Sounds like Glyths to me.

Glyphs are for everyone, and despite the need to add them en masse to at least give us full array of cool NPC abilities we’ve seen across the expansions, this idea is more about racial tints to the abilities that shouldn’t be shared. Like gradually more Void-coloured abilities and spells for the void elves, or more intricate shaman totems. This kind of stuff.

as I said at the end of my post…glyphs are pretty much dead. They have never put any effort into them.

Id be happy if they did, believe me!
At this point though Id love any kind of new customization that could help make a class feel unique to how everybody plays.

Obviously people are going to argue for ‘real’ talents and balancing of current talents but Im just talking about more in depth customization options that could be added like hair colours or skin colours.
Once you set up the tree (or store or list or however) it wouldnt take much developer resources to add to over time.

Honestly I dont think Blizzard are precious about racial tints anymore. Except for heritage armor most races can use most items so I dont think it would be unreasonable to let a human summon forth tiki masks with a spell!

If such a feature was talked about already at Blizzard, I imagine such a feature would be added to the ingame shop for 20 to 25 euros a pop!

Ok, that’s nice. But you’re still basically asking for glyphs. Besides, didn’t they add some new ones in 10.1?

That’s what i hoped hero talents were, minor tweaking, but more a reskin of your class/spec.

Then “freeze” regular talents in terms of adding more to them, so they can be further worked on in terms of balance on all classes.

Same actually. And then expand on the different archetypes over time, so that every spec has a lot of flavours to choose from. With racial specific colours, animations and what not. I’d have loved that.

Yeah, but sadly from what I read about DK hero talents they are instead the new “covenants” forcing ppl into a playstyle & class fantasy for the sake of dps/gameplay optimization, so they sound like a cool lore/char customization but instead make you sacrifice your char identity for gameplay reasons as they are heavily impactful on that level. :pensive:

They really should have kept to a “visual” level; San’layn as Frost DK for example replacing Remorseless Winter with the Blood Mist visuals from Venthyr and Death’s Advance with the Venthry Teleport etc… instrad we get another balanceing mess.

Exactly, it would make the game much healthier as well, because instead of adding “These new “talents” or w/e is the new extra power this expansion” they could keep adding flavour the with cosmetic hero talents …

Go all in with things like dark ranger for hunters and so on … Feel like it’s gonna be a missed opportunity and a step back from where we are in DF

Yea :frowning: Bliz, one step forward, 2 steps back

I feel like in order to be a new gameplay feature Hero talents have to be relevant (so active abilites) and I worry that to keep that balanced you are going to just get a watered down version of something you ‘actually’ wanted.
They are def giving me future disappointment vibes…

Thats why I like the idea of a cosmetic tree. You can be as wild, wacky, OTT as you like because it wont matter to gameplay!
Imagine a fire mage whose spell creates a ring of flame around them or a shaman who turns to stone when they cast something?
Maybe your rogue does a cool dagger flip or your tauren warrior throws a totem instead of a hammer!?

If you dont have to balance it then the possibilities are endless!
