Cosmetics of the renown factions

Exactly. Renown is a great place for these Transmogs.

But other than some Profession Knowledge and a Primal infusion at the end of the tree, there is very little from these Renowns that resembles anything remotely desirable.

It’s about offering something for everyone in all places, not segregating them.

They want you to buy cosmetics from the store, that is what seems to be happening. Same happened in Overwatch. Now you only get boring basic skins, or original OW skins for free(skins you used to earn for ingame currency). All the new actually nice skins are from the store. It is really dull in both games.

I actually like more mundane transmog designs, so I’m happy with what they’re offering.
For the over the top stuff there’s PvP and raiding. I guess.

And of course we have the Trading Post coming soon. Which might bring with it some transmog stuff you’d like.

I don’t really agree with that. I mean, of course they want you to buy them.

But I don’t think the way they have designed rewards in-game is to encourage Store purchases. Otherwise the Store Cosmetics would be more inline with what’s going on in the game. The Cosmetics in store tend step away from the games aesthetics and themes (or at least are tied very loosely to them).

Are you sure ?

Atm the store isn’t much of a problem for WoW, but after seeing how they ruined OW while they now seem to only add bland cosmetics to WoW(while adding a cool one to the store) I have a really bad feeling WoW is heading the same way as OW did.

Um no…I never said at any point that I think you don’t want us to have anything other than flashy. Unsure how pointing out that those who love flashy gear already have significantly more choice than those who like plainer gear could mean that. That’s just a simple fact of the game, not an opinion.

Yes, it is. It really is. Well, at least in terms of cosmetics being there. Stuff that can easily be put into the game easily (ask me, I’ve thought about it endlessly). You know, the game we pay to play? And then they have the gall to ‘ask’ us to spend money and then people do. New stuff should be in the game.

I do agree, but it can get worse(which I am 100% certain it will since people keep using the shop). I am really bummed by what happened to OW. I was also really disappointed by that new store set they added for WoW, but for now it’s not as noticable as in OW.

Not to mention there are alot of rare’s on the maps ( most of them ive never seen spawn tbh and i camped some) That drop the same basic stuff that you get from 10 other sources…

They models are quite horrible. I looked at all that ugliness and crossed off renown from my list

Whilst I don’t want to defend the ingame store. Like yourself I think the game would be better without it.

I don’t agree with your sentiment that is the direction it is heading in.

The store serves a purpose to upsell additional ingame items to people who are inclined to buy them. “Buying the latest expansion? How about a mount to go with that?”

There are more cosmetics in the game now than there has been in the past and that continues to grow as time goes on.

Many people have mentioned OW in this thread. I don’t play that game. Can someone please explain what happened and how it relates to this thread?

I’ll try to explain.

OW used to have a system with loot boxes(much like the satchels we get in WoW). This was until a few months ago. You played games, and depending on some criteria, you got a loot box that could contain one or more skins and some other things(icons, emotes, voice lines). None of this cost money. There were new and cool skins regulary. A loot box was obtained every time you leveled(levels was infinite, personally I only got to level 600 something), you could get a loot box if you queued as a less desired role(tank, support), as in LFG in WoW. First game of the day, etc.

However, next to these loot boxes(which are like the satchels in WoW, maruk hun spoils and similar), you earned a currency, so that you could save enough currency to buy skins you wanted but had not been lucky to get from a loot box yet. The earn rate for the currency was decent.

You could also buy loot boxes for real money, but there was no way you needed to do that.

To me this system worked really well, and it was fun.

Then, in october iirc… OW2 came out, and that with loot boxes gone. Leveling gone too. Now we have a battle pass. I bought the first battle pass to try it.

What happened to the skins was that all new skins got locked behind the battlepass, and even when you have the battlepass, you have to play a certain amount to level your battlepass enough to get all the stuff you paid to get access too. In my case I only got halfway through the pass by the time I paid for ran out, and lost half the stuff that was in it. Then the new battlepass came out and, and I didn’t buy that. What I am left with then is old skins for free that I already have(skins from the original game), and some bland boring skins as we see in WoW now(which is why I fear WoW is about to head the same way). If I want anything new, I have to buy it for real money or buy another battlepass I probably won’t get through. You earn a very tiny amount of currency in OW2 too, but it’s so little that you have to do dailies every day for 9 months(?) to be able to buy ONE skin.

I hope this cleared it up a bit, but maybe I explained it poorly.

I’m in two minds of it. On one hand, yeah, it’s underwhelming - especially considering how much effort they seem to put into the cash shop. I’m sure the trading market thingmajig might have more interesting things, though.

On the other hand, I’m really loving how this entire expansion seems to be low fantasy and down to earth when it comes to cosmetics. As I play mainly casters, though, I do wish there were more low fantasy magical things as well.

I think the cosmetics are fine…they are faction appropriate, meaning that the Expedition gives you stuff to dig up treasures and the Valdrakken gives you fancy schmancy gold dragonesque stuff.
Although Im not sure we really needed 450 hats and shoulders from the centaurs…that does seem abit excessive!

If you want mogs with all the bells and whistles then you have to go shopping in raids and PVP vendors. Thats just how it works!

(also even then you have to wait for an expansion that thematically matches what you want. For example mechagnomes are best shopping in BFA and this expansion raid is pretty good for shamans.)

Dear god no wonder everyone hates it. That is bloody awful.

Thanks for the explanation.
