Could someone explain how entropic rift works for shadow?

If I fully channel void torrent which is 3s, do I only get 5 seconds to work with entropic rift? i.e. use devouring plague to increase size and damage? And does that mean I should be cancelling void torrent to get the most out of entropic rift and get the full duration of 8s?

Also, am I supposed to prioritize casting devouring plague over void blast when entropic rift is active?

I don’t know the optimum numbers, but I take the talent where Rift grants an instant free DP that does more damage. I chose this as the tier set buffs DP and makes it increase all your damage. So I

Channel VT fully
Cast buffed DP
2 x VB
Spam DP if any insanity.

This seems to be OK. Sometimes I get 3 VB if the intstacast procs. Frankly though the whole window and timing of rift seems too short. I know you can talent into extending it but you’re just gambling on a third VB and missing an extra DP. I’d like a rework where Rift grants you 2 stacks of VB for 30 seconds.

Thank you, I’ll give that a go tomorrow and see if it feels any better.

I do agree that the window feels too short, doesn’t feel good.
