Could someone give me a summary on 11.2 Xal? (Spoilers, please)

I don’t feel like playing this patch, but I can’t deny a bit of curiosity about what is going on, and for now I failed to get a clearer picture from the outside, so… I might as well try asking.

So Xal’atath wants to stop Dimensius. Why? And what has that got to do with anything that happened in TWW before 11.2? Is there any throughline from the destruction of Dalaran to her stopping Dimensius and manipulating some new NPCs to “her side”, whatever that is?

Alright.

We left the Story with the Astrals of the Shadowguard stealing the Dark Heart. Locus Walkers tells us, that they will use it to reunite the various shards of Dimensius that are scattered across the universe and revive him…which would be a big problem because it seems like the first target of Dimensius will be Azeroth.

It is also a big problem for Xal’atath, because we finally uncover that she was once the harbinger of Dimensius, but betrayed him by telling the K’areshi how to kill him, which they did by destroying K’aresh themselves, however that was a close-kept secret of the group called the “Ravel”, because telling your entire surviving population that your group destroyed the planet will not get you any sympathy-points.

Anyways, Xal’atath fears that Dimensius will seek revenge upon her, so she makes a temporary alliance with us to stop Dimensius, because we do not want to die a horrible death an she doesn’t want to die a horrible death.

However and now we get to the very spoilery section:

Datamines indicate, that Xal’atath will betray us by trying to snatch the Dark Heart from us again after we defeat Dimensius. She and Locus-Walker will fight over it, Locus-Walker dies, Xal now holds all the Power she absorbed from Dalaran, Beledar and Dimensius in her hands and uses it to become a Void-Lord herself, which will lead us into Midnight.

Thanks, that helps.

And that explains why the ethereals see her as a viable partner in crime.

But since you didn’t say anything about it, am I right in assuming that Xal’atath made no attempts to sell us on her actions against us being for any greater good? Just that she is an enemy that’s fighting another enemy of ours? Are we at least making any contigency plans against her, if any armistice with her is never planned to be more than temporary? Have we looked into alternatives to her help before accepting the neccessity of tolerating the destroyer of Dalaran? Anything?

She makes it pretty clear from the beginning that she will betray us in the end and actually mocks us troughout the story for it because we have to trust her.

Which brings me to:

Locus-Walker says he only does this because he is desperate, implying that he thought about alternatives.

Basically Xal’atath is the only being that knows how to get the heroes close enough to Dimensius without the mere presence of Dimensius turning said heroes into Void-goo.

Datamining implies that Locus-Walkers Contingency is the Dark Heart which he will try to use on Xal’atath

Considering that the main story stops on 3rd segment at the moment we don’t know .

Currently Alleria had an emotional outburst and ran off somewhere .
Meanwhile we are happily helping Xal gather cannon fodder army from the Ethereals worshiping their home planet (old K’Aresh oracles) , by ( quite clearly) tricking them into believing that the planet is not dead and can speak to them .
I think she plans to send them to die , so we have time to defeat Dimensius .

Thanks again. So, with Alleria sulking, and WoW not really treating the player character as a character anyways, it’s basically a story playing out between the ethereals and Xal? With the newly invented shared history serving to make it feel a little more plausible?

That… could have been worse, I guess. Though it doesn’t sound particularly appealing to play through.

In short we are teaming up with Jaws to fight bigger Jaws

…while Jaws is still chewing our leg.
