Personally I rarely use addons. I like to keep it simple & play the game as intended… No UI modifications, no enhanced auction house features, no quest helpers, no achievement trackers, no damage meters, no gathering/node mini map markers or anything of the sorts.
Back in The Burning Crusade, when I was learning to tank on my Warrior I downloaded my first & only addon at the time, Omen Threat Meter. Then during Wrath of the Lich King when I wanted to participate in raiding more, I downloaded my 2nd addon, Deadly Boss Mods.
^^ This was my core addon set up, perhaps with the occasional quality of life addon, ie: vend all junk in bags in one click or an AoE alarm.
I hear about players who run 10+ addons, spending hours tweaking them & downloading plugins ie: WeakAuras as well as re-mapping their entire UI. Then when an update comes along it can cause problems or even undo some of that work.
I’ve seen the odd player over the years attending a raid only to discover that an addon isn’t working, & its almost crippling to them where they feel the game is unplayable.
I think about the current Shadowlands pre-patch event. I see everyone using a rarespawn tracker to know which boss is spawing, where it’s spawning & how long until the next spawn. You see an army of mounts flying from location to location, AFK’ing for 15-20 minuets in between. This got me thinking… Imagine what this event would be like without this addon or any addons that could help you in such a way.
Sometimes I think players have become overly reliant on addons. What do you guys think? Do you play, or could you play WoW with limited of no addons? If you could only keep one Addon what would it be?

Absolutely not. Simple as that.
Don’t you dare take away my Adibags!

I mean I could yes, but I have 3-4 addons that make me happy so I prefer to have them.
It’s possible, raid leader most probably will announce the mechanics, but timers are a lot better.
This is one of the easiest MMORPGs in the world. So yeah, I play it without addons usually. I did have one that restored the gun sounds, because air rifles and pellet guns are silly, but last I checked it hadn’t been updated to work in Shadowlands.
Um yeah? All I use is TRP3 and Details.

Obviously you can, but the default UI sucks.

I could if there was no other choice, I did it on beta and it is doable but not for me. I really don’t like the classic UI. Not being able to see damage, healing, whatever is going on ins’t great either. And I like using weak auras to track inportant things more easily.
I’m a multi-gladiator, mythic world first raider.
I never used addons, because I do not need to be assisted.

A. That’s troll.
B. That would absolutely not be the case for a World First Raider.

I don’t mean to wind anyone up, I just want to be honest.

When DBM became a thing I loved it. But now after all these years I kind of wish it was not.
Idk somehow having to take all the queues from only the game feels a lot more immersive. But not using it feels like you’re dumb for gimping yourself by not using it.
The only thing I really need is the AH and bag stuff.

I always played it without addons lmfao
When i think they ask for UI screenshot and send a list of mandatory addons for world top 300
That’s the kind of guy calling others “elitists”.
Addons aren’t just about dbm, WA and damagemeters and whatnot. I have quite alot of addons that is only there to improve my UI, like Bartender4, Masque, Pearl Classic, Chinchilla, Adibags to mention a few, and those are the ones I’d really hate to be without.
