Hey guys! I want some advice from you pro gamers! I mainly play WoW a lot, do a lot of raiding (Just got curve on wednesday) but my current pc is dog!"#¤! I want a computer that can handle every aspect in WoW on ultra with high fps!
So I’m going with RTX 2070 Super and then the CPU… Here’s the question: Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i7-9700K? I’m gonna use a good cooler btw, so that the cpu can perform really good without heat problems!
What would you pick and why? FYI I don’t have the cash for Ryzen 9 or i9.!
If it’s only for WoW go for the one you can have for less money. Also, the GPU is a complete overkill.
I’m raiding on a two year old Ryzen 7 1700 and I probably won’t run into wow-related problems with it for at least another decade. Also, I use a RX 570 that you can obtain for 80ish Euro nowadays depending on your country.
If you need your computer for something else, plan around that. But, don’t plan your computer around WoW. Every mid-range computer with a dedicated somewhat-modern GPU will do just fine.
Go for amd if you do anything else other than just pure gaming.
The new amd and the intel chips are basically tied in gaming, but the ryzen is so much better for pretty much anything else it’s embarrassing for intel.
This is the general thing right now, intel can keep up in games, but otherwise no.
And this is only because games are not very well coded for multithreading usually, otherwise the amd chips would pretty much always win.
If you are unsure look at benchmarks.
Also, some games specifically favor one cpu brand, don’t know how it happens exactly, it’s probably in the coding.
They are very similar in terms of performance. In some games Intel will be slightly better in others AMD. Ryzen 9 or I9 are more for productivity and multitasking tasks (like WoW + Streaming + Recording…). As for pick - I would go with AMD platform - lower TDP, more features, faster RAM, and with modern board likely compatibility with Ryzen 4000 series.
I’m using the same graphics card with a ryzen 1400 with no problems in wow.
As for the OP’s question, if its mainly wow neither will make much difference but If he does play lots of modern games then the Intel is going to win due to the increased performance in modern games. However if cost is an issue then the AMD platforms are generally cheaper.
Intel is winning in some games due to lower latency of their CPU design. Latest games do however use multiple cores much better and don’t rely as much on single core or latency between few cores as before. Newer games aren’t explicitly Intel favored. More like core count and frequency - whichever team gives more.
AMD if you doing other stuff than playing games, graphic, videos or programming.
Intel i5 if you want only play games.
Intel i7 if you want also streaming or watching movies on second screen.
I have 5 desktops in my house, and best performance in games have intels cpu.
Amd are more for people who like I say before use they pc as a work station.
For games most important is power per single core. Because most of games don’t use more than 2 cores(even new games).
And why explicitly i5 ? and which i5 as buying 4/4 i5 is really bad. More expensive newer i5 can also be worse value than like R5 3600 recommended by pretty much every credible tech source.
Which i7? It can be 4/8 or up. Also multiple cores in good prices is Ryzen 2000 series domain right now. Ryzen 3000 for those wanting the best.
That’s hearsay. Plus if you would check IPC or single core performance some Ryzens are on the top. What still makes Intel win in some games is lower latency (and selling best bins of the silicon where as AMD is pushing better silicon to Epyc and not to consumers).
amd or intel, yes intel ia better by a little margin, amd have a better price. it really depend on you. i play on 1080p because i don’t see reason, i’m not fps(first person shooter and not frame per second) so for me 1080p is perfect balance for me personaly and i run wow on ultra with ryzen5 2600x, 16g of ddr4 3200 14las, and a gtx super 1660 i’m having 60+ fps constant anywhere.
Amd cpu can be better now, but only because last two years problems of intel factories. And like he say he will don’t buy something new from last 2 years because that cpu still are overpriced for typical gaming customer.
Intel was ahead in the CPU market for a long time. Right now their models loose out against AMD’s latest generation in just about every possible way. They consume more power, are more expensive and perform worse.
This will likely change once they finally get their 10nm process to work reliably, but right now AMD is ahead.
That said: for WoW and other games this won’t matter. AMD is still cheaper, though.
I would still encourage you to do your own research on more technical oriented sites, though.
Or ranking sites like this one:

They usually provide far more in depth analysis than any comment on a video game forum could.
I had in the past both AMD and Intel CPU-s and I can say how in general I was always happier with the way how the Intel ones worked, they seemed more stabile when it comes to their performance and heating.
There is also an important thing to consider, you can change the infinity fabric clock, on amd, which will have a considerable impact on your performance.
