Crackling jade lightning?

Can someone tell me what this ability is used for? I bet if it was removed tomorrow, no one would notice.

I am all for having more abilities, but CJL does nothing. It does not fit into any rotation, it does not give any chi points or energy, it does not any damage, so whats its purpose?

It has an unknown chance of pushing enemies back which I guess could be useful for interrupting enemies casting spells? I dont know, I never tried to use it that way.

How do you guys use it?

Interesting thing is that if you google Crackling chain lightning, the first autocomplete word after it is “useless”.

As Mistweaver, I use it to apply Mystic Touch to mobs I don’t want to be (or can’t be, for one reason or another) in melee range of. As Brewmaster, I use it to pull mobs from range, usually while still fighting the previous pack, so I can Keg Smash the incoming ones in the face when they arrive.

I also use it while soloing - again, to pull mobs at range. I run around, CJL a bunch of stuff, then spinning crane kick them down, easy peasy. Much faster than me running to each of them, or killing them one by one.

It’s far from useless, but its uses are pretty niche.

it’s dogs***. It being used for tagging mobs or applying mystic touch is poor design and there is no justification for it to be in it’s place it is right now.

remove the energy cost and make it deal decent damage like it did in MoP or WoD. And same with Chi Wave.

We’re a melee class. Having a ranged spell with decent damage doesn’t make much sense.

In MoP and WoD it did made sense. And WW design was the peak at the point.

stop wanting windwalker to be trash.

Aren’t enhance getting Stormkeeper in SL? ( ͥ° ͜ʖ ͥ°)

Contrary to CJL, Stormkeeper makes the affected spells instant cast. If we had a talent that makes CJL instant cast, that’d be ok. It might be worth buffing CJL to do decent damage then. But as long as its chanelled, it’s not going to be useful for anything other than pulling and applying mystic touch.

Chanelling as melee is just wrong.

Fair call. Honestly I always thought CJL was an awkward concept. Personally I think it should be a buff that charges the WWs hands with lightning to power their auto attacks or something like that.
The only times I’ve seen it being used it to keep people in combat that are too far away, like rogues to keep them from stealthing or hunters bandaging. Other than that it’s just a complete waste of energy.

For MW it serves to apply debuff to mobs you cannot melee for whatever reason, and lets you DPS during abilities that force you out of melee.

BrM helps to pull mobs in certain locations.

WW you honestly never use it unless it’s for the same reasons as MW. However they’re getting a legendary that will make it strong, and you’ll actually use it.

Fists of fury and spinning crane kick say hello.

Both are melee range. But correct, I should’ve worded it differently: channeling a ranged spell as melee is just wrong.

I use it for pulling mobs. Imo monks should have an attack that hits well in a range, but not spammable one. So far it looks like a certain legion legendary is making a return in Shadowlands, which makes CJL actually worthwhile in a way I like it. Tho that thing should be baseline as there seems to be other nice leggos as well.

Its there as a middle finger to make us remember how much fun monk used to be.

The emperor capacitor. Just a few words.

well Lets have a Look

  • Its a Last option when it comes to upholding Combo hits.
  • It allows you to attack from Range to reduce DPS Loss When u cant be in melee
  • Allows you to pull pulling mobs during certain out door Content

In SL we arte getting a Legendary surrounding it, iirc it was a Strong legendary in Legion
so it may repeat, gaining 20 Stacks to increase its Damage and Reduce its cost.

keeping people in combat in pvp

Sigh
it also PUSHES attackers back. Meaning you can interrupt fists of fury from an enemy WW and MANY other cool tricks! It’s one of few skillful things you can do in pvp. DO NOT remove it please

Detox should be added to the list of WW monks abilities that if removed, no one would notice.

If it wasn’t for the addon Decursive, I would never use Detox in PvE.

In PvP it’s “useful” against rogues but since every successful Detox puts it on CD and every hit from a rogue seemingly poisons you, what is the point of using Detox.

Detox is probably one of the most important monk abilities for m+ if you have a healer that can’t do it.

It’s also incredibly useful even if your healer has it, in cases where there are multiple people to detox, such as last boss in Siege.
