Crafting is a fail

Coming back after a year of not playing the game, this crafting system is an absolute joke. So if you want to gear up your character and get 476 you need these sparks blablabla, this complete system is a joke and you have to find everything about it out of game, google it, watch youtube videos. I wasted my flightstones because I was upgrading useless gear, not knowing I could get 476s for free with crafting and weeklies. It’s such a mess and explained very badly in game. I pre-orderd the War Within so I wanted to try out Dragonflight as well but not a fan at all of these systems, this expansion feels like a dissapointment and it doesnt feel like WoW. I liked Shadowlands way more.

what does crafting have to do with the flight stone system? like i’m sorry you don’t …read? it clearly says on the crafting items what levels tehy can upgrade the crafted gear to. which you can find out ingame by just looking at the items in the optional reagent tab (434-447 for enchanted whelpling on blue gear and 473-486 on enchanted aspect crests for epic gear and anytihng in-between too) no need to google that

if you’re talking about the upgrade system for world gear, that’s got nothing to do with crafting gear. And while yes it can be a bit of trial and error if you don’t look it up, it’s not 100% punishing as it gives you a huge discount on ILVLs you already have covered in the system (something they do indeed not explain well ingame)

I understand the system can be overwhelming but it’s more intuitive than you might realise at this point, and i think the choice to look it up on google is more a personal choice than a forced one, imho.

You need flightstones to make your spark, it’s how the two halves merge into one.

I honestly can’t remember how much I learnt from the game and how much was just trial and error with craft. There are always guides on third party sites too ofc.

I’m not a big fan of the revamp. The UI change is nice and the work orders system, although it should be tied into the AH IMO. However the ranks of materials and outcomes hasn’t been something I enjoy. The knowledge point system is also horrendous. We are now in the third season and I still have professions that aren’t knowledge capped.

I suppose you can orient yourself in a profession that you have. But the moment you need anything from a profession you don’t have it becomes an absolute nightmare.
I’m not someone who is interested in professions at all however I needed someone to make me a thing this season and the amount of things you need to know to get a useful item is absurd.
They’ve designed a system where you “just” need to read three articles on wowhead, icy veins and mmo-champion, watch a youtube vid, ask people in your guild and then you still need to go vent on the forum to actually find the answer for what you need.
The user experience of professions is unnaceptable.

I never have seen the flightstones being required for the spark. Flightstones were introduced in 10.1 and sparks were there since 10.0

You need 250 of them to make a dream spark.

Whenever you ask Blizz support for gameplay help, they will direct you to forums, wowhead and 3rd party sites.
WoW is a huge game and outside support is just needed. Fornite and CoD dont have this amount of depth (and time) needed.

The only issue I have with crafting is being unable to re-allocate points, once you select them that’s it. They’re locked.

The first two seasons you just needed the base element, in the latest season of crafting you need two of the base elements and flightstones to make a spark.

I have a flightstone less alt that can’t make a spark because it has no stones. I can screenshot the message if you don’t believe me and the others

I’ve not bothered with my professions this expansion. I’m just put off by how convoluted it seems. It might not be as bad as I think it is but there is certainly a problem there (evne if it’s one of perception).

Crafting should be made more interesting by having more interesting things to craft not by making the same old thing through more convoluted methods with mish-mash of dozens of materials of varying ranks.

I like the new crafting system, I have never cared for professions in my 19 years in this game before now.
But it can always be made better

Yep the new crafting system is absolutely terrible. The last few expansions i dabbled alot with the proffesions to make money and my own enchants and gear. But i stopped doing so with this absolutely terrible new system.

I hope they will bring back the old proffesions or try to fix the mess the made with this system in dragonflight.

With the current terrible proffesions they might as well remove proffesions entirely and replace it with npc vendors selling the stuff

The ED-tier sparks require 250 flightstones to “Glue” the halves together, it’s a new addition, because obviously we weren’t bottlenecked on flightstones enough yet…

The crafting system is interesting, but too vague, the importance of inspiration-procs is easy to overlook, and having to look up how to use profession knowledge points to avoid ending up stuck in profession knowledge (Until you get enough points to fix the mistake) is a major pain.

I’d be fine with it if we had the option to deliver work orders to NPC’s. I never see any work orders to complete on my server. :upside_down_face:

You know my feelings already Puny.

But yeah I also do not like the current system, and am dissapointed its making its way into TWW.

I have honestly never been this disengaged with the profession system. I normally have professions and make my own things, the 1 other time , other than now was in Shadowlands with the legendary crafting, and never touched the legendary base items. That too was annoying.

But now I dont even bother making flasks or potions no more. Its so much extra time investment on my part for such a small return. The talent points too are annoying as hell. It feels like you need so many to make the slightest improvement, and there is no catch up. If you missed season 1, or 2 or both or all 3… yeah dont even bother. You have no hope of catching up or predicting the market.

Yes, thank you. I see it now. Guess I didn’t read it myself actively while playing.

It definitely seems more convoluted on the first glance but after a while it’s really simple in the end. Just more steps compared to before.

I agree. The new crafting system is horrible.
It’s bloated with unnecessary actions, fills your pack with crap and the order system is a complete waste of time.
I sincerely hope it’s not the same team that will be overhauling future systems.

Levelling it was also awful. Several professions just got stuck if you went the wrong way with knowledge points because you no longer have anything you can make to skill up. A couple of mine halted until I got enough skill ups from Darkmoon Faire profession quests and/or had to buy PvP recipes from the AH.

I also capped the professions long before the knowledge. A lot of crafters capitalised on the knowledge trees by running multiple characters taking a different specialisation first. Seems scummy to have to play that way.
