Crafting Orders - How do I place the order I want?

I try to get into that system, but I still do not understand them. There’s a list of items I see in the “Place Crafting Order” interface which I can choose from.

But how the f do I select the item I want? I do not need a Wildercloth Bag, thank you, I want to place an order for the item I like.

I checked on the crafting table, and it’s the same issue, I can only craft items that are in the selection screen (which are none for my inscription char for example), but I can not offer to craft anything.

What good is the personal list for when I can’t even select which item I want? Becoming crazy here

You might find this guide useful

Essentially you can select the item want crafted from the list and then either send it to a crafter you know/have made arrangements with, put it in as a guild order if your guild covers crafts via it’s members or put it up for a public order.

You provide the materials and leave a tip for the crafter. If you are not providing the materials you need to provide enough gold to cover the materials and a tip.

You can only create things at a crafting table if you know that profession and have learnt the recipe in question.

You don’t do it at the crafting table, you do it with Clerk Silverpaw near / at the artisans market.

Just type in the name of the item you want or select it from the drop downs on the left (ie armor > mail > legs) or whatever.

From there you’ll generally need to provide reagents.
These are:

  • The leather / thread or whatever you need to make the item
  • A spark (make sure you use this seasons) - can’t remember what its called.

Optional reagents

  • A crest (this will increase its ilevel so aspects is highest ilevel, wyrm a bit lower and so on)
  • A missive which will allow you to apply your preferred stats (ie haste/mastery instead of vers/crit or whatever)
  • You can also add embellishments but can have a max of 2 total on your gear (and probably not something you need to worry about)

You then need to place the order, you can do personal / guild or public but if you place a public order be aware that noob Joe could craft it and have it come out at a low quality.

Edit: Damn Puny and her convenient easy to understand links /shakes fist

The problem is, that I can not choose the item I want but only a presented selection?! I do not understand, sorry guys

Ok are you seeing an AH style screen?

Yes.

And how exactly do I put in an order of an item I want to be crafted by somebody?

I can only press the Search button and select from a variety of items that are shown there

I know!! Bloody MVP’s coming here and making things easy, I say we start a new forum thread titled “really longwinded explanations that take an hour to read, no MVP’s allowed”

It’s on my list. Right after I stop sticking pins into a voodoo effigy of her.

You click on the link provided by Punyelf then read and following the instructions.

If you mean a personal order then you select that option after you have found the item you are looking for.

The items will be here, in the red circle.

You then find the exact item you want created, again circled in red.

You are then directed to the next window.

This is where you will start your personal order.

Box 1 is the icon and name of what you want to be created. make sure that is correct.

Box 2 is where you provide the materials needed by the person you want to make the options. The order will not go through if you do not have the mandatory mats but it will allow you to provide optional mats like enhancements. The person you want to fulfill the order can do this themselves, but it’s considered etiquette for you to provide all mats except soul-bound items.

Box 3 is where you type in the name of the person you want to create your item. This can be yourself, any player in your guild, friend list, etc or a random geezer from another window you pull down under “Personal”.

For now, we will assume you have a friend called JoeBloggs who will be creating your item.

Type in JoeBloggs in the box where it requires a name.

Box 4 is the last part.

Here you give them their commission, or “tip” as it’s usually called. Depending on person and item this can be expensive. But as a general rule, you give them a good commission.

If you are using an alt to create for you, you can just send 5 gold as default.

Your duration is how long you give them to make the item. By default, it’s 12 hours. I’d set it for the maximum time frame.

The game takes a 5 gold posting fee, you can’t get around this, it’s like the AH “tax”.

Once you have done all that and double-checked everything is ok, you then click on “Send Request” When the game has accepted you have fulfilled all the requirements and it turns red.

You now have to wait until whoever has made the item completes the order on their end, and they then mark the order as complete and it arrives in your mailbox.

If you are creating for yourself, you go to your crafting table and you will see an alert telling you that you have a personal order. Upon opening it, you will get a window telling you so and so sent a request and you can either decline or accept. if you decline all the items are returned. if you accept, you create the item according to your skill level. Once created you then click on the button which will say “Complete order” and the item disappears from your order window and is sent to your alt.

The same procedure goes ahead if you send a personal order to a friend.

You don’t place them at the workstation [you do if you’re fulfilling work orders], you need to interact with one of numerous NPCs in the Artisan’s area in Valdrakken just above where the Enchanter’s table is at.

You might find it useful to “Track Recipe” of the item you want to make. With Auctionator addon it’ll give you the option to quickly search the AH for the mats you need inputting the exact amount so you can quickly throw in your work order.

I hope all the explanations have helped and you managed to get your order done.

You made a great explanation, but that wasn’t the issue :frowning:

I can not DECIDE which item I want to order, I can only SELECT a SET selection of items I do not want. For example, the interface shows me like 5 different glyphs I can order, but if I want another glyph than that listed, what now? Why can’t I chose what I want crafted?

Probably not a DF glyph/item and hence not in the system? Check the AH instead. If I remeber correctly, there are also items that are only sold per AH and not per crafting orders.

You need to be more specific in what your problem is. We’re trying to help solve an issue when you can’t tell us exactly what it is.

If I understand you correctly you are restricted to crafting what is in the recipe book and it will only allow you to request a crafting order for DRAGONFLIGHT expansion items, it won’t allow you to request an item from previous expansions or vanilla. So if you open your profession window on your toon right now, for say blacksmithing, it will list the current item list which will be Dragonflight items, you will only be able to create what is in that list depending on whether or not you have unlocked it. You are able to open up previous expansion items and crafty them, but you will not be able to get them in personal orders.

As Naethir correctly said, if you’re looking for previous expansion recipe glyphs you won’t find them in personal orders for crafting, you’ll only find them in the AH unless you have a scribe who has them unlocked.

Thank you, that is the issue. Only Dragonflightitems. Whatever issue that solves to restrict it like that

@Noir.
Tell us what item it is you want made.
AFAIK the crafting tables can only craft items from the Dragonflight Expansion. For anything before Dragonflight you would need to purchase it from the Auction House or from a player that has the profession and recipe needed to make that item.
