Cross Faction & Cross Realm Limitations

If I create a character on a low population realm for easier naming and opposite faction from what I normally play for cosmetic race-class combinations, what limitations and problems am I going to face in terms of playing with my friends and general experience?

I know there are some limitations with the current cross-faction and cross-realm implementation but I couldn’t find a definitive answer.

PS: I almost never do any PVP content.

I know people gonna hate me for saying this, but LFG, dung finder and those tools, at this point should have no faction limit, you can be in the same M+, Guild, Raid, but anything but Group finder, a pain in remix tbh, and i’d fix many of their queue issues overall…questing wise, 100% should stay faction sided, outside the newer content ofc, which is basically the same at this point, but an Alliance levling outside Durotar with a friend, makes little sense xD

The AH is still realm restricted for non-stacked items [stacked are region wide], so if you’re after collectibles or gear to buy off the AH there’ll be less on there and in all likelihood more expensive due to lack of competition.

They are pretty much removing the relevance of servers with TWW prepatch (hits next month). Guilds will be cross realm and remain cross faction. We can already do pug content like raids and mythic plus in cross faction groups. The mythic cross realm restrictions are being removed in TWW. So you can literally join anywhere.

The AH already shares commodities across the region. Most things that can stack are considered commodities, things like ore, flasks etc.

So the major problems I’m looking at are no LFG with my friends and AH being expensive? I could live with the AH situation but not sure about the LFG.

It’s weird that I can do all instanced content cross-faction and realm with a pre-made group but not LFG, I mean it’s already cross faction and realm when solo queuing right?

Although the AH won’t be fully cross-realm in TWW, you will be able to access to any realm AH with warband banks.
Let’s say in your AH there are almost no transmog but you find a transmog in Draenor AH you want to buy.
You can deposit the gold you need in your warband bank, create a level 1 character in Draenor, purchase the item from their AH using the gold from your bank and lear the transmog. If the item is something you can’t learn on a level 1 character (like a recipe) you can put the item in your warband bank and pick it with your main in your original realm.

Warband bank allows you to move items and gold between realms so you can access any realm AH.

Yeah good point. I just learned about warband bank today and checked it on PTR to see if I can transfer gold but didn’t think about using it like you described, that’s probably the biggest use case of AH for me solved.

I’m counting on Blizzard lifting LFG restriction and more before the end of Worldsoul Saga so I will probably be fine with playing on a low population.

There is one more thing that may have a minor effect on your playing experience on low pop servers, which are work orders.

While you can counter-act it in the form of being in a guild, unless you are in one with a dedicated group of crafters you will likely have to pay large sums of gold for crafted items as low population servers will have few maxed out crafters, who as a result will enjoy monopoly and setting their own much higher prices.

If you do not plan on getting any crafted gear then this should not be an issue for you.

You can access other realm’s work orders too to purchase items, just like the regular AH.

Put the gold and/or materials in your warband bank.
Create an allied race character (to start at level 10 and be able to fly on dragon isles).
Pick the boat to Dragon Isles and fly to Valdrakken.
Pick the gold and materials from your warband bank.
Pay for the work order you want.
Put the crafted item in your warband bank.
Pick the item from the bank with your character in your original realm.

It is true that you WONT be able to sell work orders in other realms but probably being a work order crafter in a dead realm will be better.

The question is: Can you even put these pieces into your warband bank? As the crafted pieces are soulbound as soon as the crafting order is done.

Keep in mind I am talking about crafts that can only be done through the work order system, like the Lariat.

I didn’t knew these piece were souldbound before you use the item. In that case it won’t be possible to put those items in the bank. Althought you will be able to lear the transmog.

But it will be easy to solve this. Blizzard should make crafting orders warband bound instead of soulbound.
