Would not a cross-realm solution for all PvP server be the best solution to “kill” one mega server? Just like retail, combine the servers into cross-realm and that will make people play together even if servers are locked or similar. Then people won’t care what server they initially join, because everyone can play with eachother.
Cross-Realm is part of WSG PvP. Could be a part of further updates for servers losing population.
I wonder if Blizzard has thought about this or if it’s possible even?
Its possible, its how classic era works, but NO TY, i dont want your Living Flame gearscore (lol), GDKPs and bot infestation xrealm into my server. Let the virus sit in isolation

Well no, the idea of PvP realms in SoD is to enforce balance. If you add cross-realm, you’re killing off that balance. It wont work here.
I dont see the point there as server balance does not matter if we can balance layers.
And when we don’t have enough of one faction to balance the layers, what then?
What does blzzard now if a server does not hold its balance?
They lock the faction that has more people so you cannot create a new character in that faction. If people start abusing this I wouldn’t hold them against a more active balance method by making the overpopulated faction wait in queue
What if each server still holds 50/50 balance, with current rules. Lock factions if it’s too much.
Adding cross-realm to that won’t change balance, its still going to be 50/50 if all servers itself hold 50/50 balance.
Then balancing layers.
It’s just a win for all servers and keep holding the 50/50 balance.
Fair point, but I think it might backfire. Currently the only imbalance is only server wide depending on how many of each faction is playing. If you add all the servers in the same pool then some layers might be shafted with active player counts. I dunno, theres probably a reason for it. Regardless, Blizzard gave more than enough time and notice about PvP realms before SoD released, warning everyone that you might not get to play with friends so I’d say the argument “but my firends” isn’t really valid here.
I totally agree with you. I just want to have a discussion on how to make people choosing a realm in the end won’t matter. For me, cross-realm (if they can balance it as I previous mentioned) would be the solution. For me, I’m playing on x2 servers to balance both playing with friends on LW and with some other friends on LF. Cross-Realm would also decrease peoples “fomo” by just choosing a server, enjoy the game and play with your friends regardless of server you choose.
It could work, I don’t have any argument against it, I haven’t put enough thought into the potential risks and flaws it might bring.
U cant balance layers .
Realms arent 50:50 . They are like 52:48 . Thats not a huge difference , but it might cause issues .
Imagine there are 3 realms. Each has 10k players . 5200 aliance vs 4800 horde
15600vs 14400.
How many layers u make ?
How many layers u create ? 10 is considered alot . But lets do 10 just for math.
Thats each layer 1560 vs 1440 . Thats more than 100 aliance per layer. Or around 8% difference .
There are atleast 3 mega servers in eu tho.
But the idea is cool, given technology exists for decade
Also get rid of pvp/pve server types. Just add war mode
But how will i indiscriminately murder everyone i meet if they can opt out??
