CRT recommendation?

Any decent CRT recommendation? I am completely over LCD and its buzzwords and its garbage tech, I’m tired of chasing the dragon of a 1:1 experience with even a basic CRT. I have spent most of my adult life dropping thousands on displays which ultimately are soulless, awful, marketing buzzword filled pieces of plastic garbage.

And no, IPS/LED/OLEDBBQWTF is not better, you’re welcome to chase the dragon for the next decade, I’m out.

So, any tips / recommendations on how to acquire a nice CRT monitor?

My GPU, a RX 5600 XT only has HDMI and Displayport outs, would a HDMI/DP to VGA converter cause issues like input lag?

Thanks

I thought you were going to ask for retro console gaming, but ok…
What exactly is it that you are not satisfied with even on “thousand dollar” displays?

I know it won’t help, but i am very happy with my LG Ultragear 27GL850-B, 1440P, 144HZ display.

There isn’t much available with CRT’s anymore, no one makes them much if at all. So your options are low to none really.

Most CRT’s won’t get to 144hz or above in high resolutions anyways, but the extra cost of repairing them due to lack of spare parts, most not being made anymore makes it a very expensive route to go down to. Also, you need a graphics card with at least a DVI or VGA connector as CRT monitors never really came out with HDMI at all.

So now you’re on issues if a game or such wants HDCP to bring higher resolutions to their product, which could limit you to 720p. More on consoles than PC, so that’s a guess. Someone will correct/give more info on that aspect.

There will be some lag as you need to convert digital output back to analogue output as that is what VGA is. How much lag is unknown.

Running a monitor at native resolution gives 1:1. Some LCD monitors also have Freesync or G-Sync that helps ensure you have a fluid clear motion with less screen tear, ghosting.

But you will get input lag with a HDMI/Display Port to VGA. These work by having the entire frame loaded up into their memory, then they convert it and then send it out through VGA cable. So you may notice it on fast paced games. Think of it like playing a game on a LCD TV that isn’t on gaming mode and is doing post processing of an image. That type of lag. More expensive the conversion box, the lower the lag but it’s still going to be there.

So…

What exactly is wrong with using LCD panels? You say 1:1 and all, but is it refresh rate, the way it looks, what?

I’ve got a Sony CPG420GS CRT you can buy off me if you pay for the 57lbs lump to be shipped.
It’s only 20 years old and worked fine last time I powered it on in 2006.
