Currencies are good thing to make any type of content relevant and rewarding in it’s own way, but in this patch a lot of currencies are things in bags instead of currencies, I really hope crests will become real currency in next patch instead of taking 8 bag slots most of time.
There is a lot of reagents that you only use to buy things from reputation, why did you even add these? it only takes whole bank and space in bags while you could make it cost only Dragon Isles Supplies, it could just cost more of these and you could put more of this currency in world content, it also would make all around the open world more important
Only reason they should be in our bags is if they’re Account Wide and can be sent over.
Otherwise they should go straight into the tab.
And stop with these Fragments or Shards or whatever that give 1,000 rep (or 75) but you have to click them to free up a bag slot when these are Soulbound…
Saying that the Niffen ones from the Black Dragon quests were kind of handy and I kept them for the weekly 1500.
I disagree with this.
It forces you into content you might prefer not to play.
Dubloons in BFA forced you into Islands even if you hated Islands. I didn’t really do Islands in BFA so I don’t have many of those cosmetics. I will probably go and solo them at some stage but still.
They could use one PVE content currency (such as Dragon Isles Supplies) to engage participation in PVE content. As you say we don’t need all these other niche currencies (especially the ones that take up bag space).
Then you have Honour and Conquest for PVP.
bull**it, how does it force you to anything, it reduces rng, makes rewarding system better cuz you can get something guaranteed for that, and since currency is from certain activities, without currency you would STILL have to do these activities, but all of loot would be rng instead of possibility to guarantee buy it from currency, where is any logic in your statement?
yeah… and how doubloons forced you do to that? it just gave you more chances to give items you want because before, you had to spam islands for these rewards anyway, it just was harder to get. On top of that you still had doubloons as additional thing, without having to do anything else.
So kind of error in your thinking
Perhaps I wasn’t so clear in my post.
Niche Currencies dedicated to a single activity force you into that activity.
General Currencies (such as Dragon Isles Supplies) lets you choose how you wish to earn that currency. If you like WQs but hate Islands then you earn it doing WQs. If you hate WQs but like Torghast then that how you should be able to earn your currency.
My problem with Dubloons was that the only way to earn them was Islands. I couldn’t get them from WQs, nor Warfronts, nor LFR, nor anything else.
I would have preferred if they just used War Resources as the general currency in BFA.
Trading Post Tender is a good example of this. You can earn them doing dozens of different things. Not just dungeons or PVP or raiding.
currency still doesnt force you to anything, it makes rewarding of connected to it thing much better. Doubloons weren’t obtainable from wqs because it shouldn’t, if doubloons made you doing island expeditions that still proves my point that currency is good way to make anything worth doing. And still, it doesn’t force you to do so, it just makes rewarding feeling better and is some kind of bad luck protection itself
Let’s just use the phrase limits your options then.
I didn’t like Island I didn’t do them so I couldn’t earn those cosmetics. Why those cosmetics absolutely 100% HAD to be earnt that way I don’t know. Why would me being able to buy those Tricorne hats with War Resources instead of Dubloons have been so bad?
but it doesn’t limit your options, in fact it increases your options, its the same rewards for the same activity with possibility of being chosen instead of being farmed. Currency is nothing but bad luck protection that makes it worth doing activity even if you don’t get anything but currency. If rare elites were dropping currency that would allow you to buy that mount they are usually dropping would it force you to farm this elite? no
would it make farming this elite feel worthy? yes
Yes, I’m in favour of Currency. It’s just which currency you use.
I would have liked the Islands to reward War Resources and have those cosmetics (the one I wanted was a Tricorne hat) to be sold for War Resources. If the hat cost 20,000 War Resources and an Island Reward 5,000 War Resources then you could still buy the hat with the currency you earnt from doing 4 Islands.
But me who doesn’t do islands could earn 20,000 War Resource by doing 100 WQs and still get my hat.
I’m not opposed to currencies. I’m opposed to have loads of Niche currencies that means you have to do one particular activity (whether you like it or not) in order to acquire some simple cosmetics.
Dragon Isle Supplies is a good currency as you can earn it doing loads of things. I have thousands of them. Not sure what I’ll do with them but I have them.
But if they made everything possible to buy through the same currency there would never be new content worth doing, it would be just event or “content” that would be free item grab for currency you already got capped long ago from s1, if they made next items worth the same currency ( how they did with forbidden reach) it made older content totally unworthy to do, it’s not good for game in any way. The rifts event we got in 10.1.5 is good addition with cool currency attached to it and im all for things like that in future
The probelm for me is that I dont always complete things every expansion, especially if something is a grind. I often prefer to come back later and pick things up.
That means that I have to keep currencies/doodads in my inventory and they really build up expansion on expansion.
We really need a way to store each Expansions stuff.
Personally I’d have the following:
A storage locker on Mechagon Island for all BFA stuff.
A bank vault (accessible in regular bank like guild bank is) in Shattrath, Dalaran (both versions), Eternal Blossoms etc. for mats / currencies of their respective expansions.
A cavern in Zerith Mortis for all our stuff from there.
These would all work like the Resource Tab but only work on the resources from their own expansion.
The immersive experience of having to travel to these places would be great although some folk might grumble at having to do so.
