Current design of Arcane Missiles

What you all think about current design - castable only when clearcasting procs vs old one - always castable?
I personally like old one better as it gave more flexibility and benefited more towards quick instant dmg. I understand that in end game PVE content this makes no difference (both designs give the same rotation), however, while leveling or solo PVE content old design seems better and more helpful.

I preferred the old version, the on-demand damage was more useful than what we have now. I used it to kill low health mobs or finish off an enemy, or even just for the mana consumption in order to proc Clearcasting.

We basically have no on-demand instant damage, everything has to be cast, procced or charged up to deal proper hits.

I feel this is an issue endemic to the Mage class, we can’t just have buttons that do straight damage, we have to rely on cooldowns, procs, or resource building to get anything done. While most other classes, have abilities that deal decent damage as a base, alongside cooldowns, procs, and/or resources management.

I agree. Missiles should not be just a proc. Channeling Missiles while moving and make them proc Blast could be way better.

I agree 100%! Blizzard, please bring back the old system where we could use AM whenever we want! I feel like the new system made arcane mage spec lesser.

Definately liked the old way better. Mostly as Icefall said, it was more or less the only always-up quick finisher we had.

It’s only slightly convenient because of instant damage. Now that Barrage is off cooldown it doesn’t matter as much, also at the beginning of expansions I just run around with 4 stacks Arcane Blasting everything without resets since it’s like a Rogue finisher without the need to build up charges every time

From a PvP pov. If arcane missles didn’t open you up to a massive interupt window locking you out of every dps ability as arcane. It would massively increase playability.

It was touched on by someone else. But PoM should provide interrupt immunity to the next 1/2 spells cast OR make the next 2 AB instant cast. PoM just seems underwhelming.

I do like Aethervision > Touch of the magi when surge is on CD. Particularly during trinket or evocation.

I just feel that for an ability that “procs” with clearcasting. It opens damage up to immediate lockdown.

I know PoM is nice for blast instants. But I’m a big advocate for “limited” cast protection for each class on a CD. Healers all have one. I’d like to see one incorporated into mage, arcane particularly during missles. Other than counterspelling a war with reflect up for precognition.
