I know I might be beating a dead horse with the amount this has probably already been asked but I was wondering what the current state of Ashenvale and Astranaar was in-game?
I don’t know if its feasible but I liked the idea of returning to Astranaar to rebuild it at some point I feel like it would make for some great RP as some of my favourite times in RP were in Astranaar
There are a lot of Kaldorei/worgen guilds in Ashenvale and Astrannar, it remains a hub for our RP around there. We do exit the zone itself when events come around.
As mentioned above the Night Elves/Alliance have reclaimed Astranaar.
"The Alliance eventually recaptured the town after the Burning of Teldrassil. Sentinel Thenysil assumed command of the remaining Sentinels in Ashenvale from the town. Horde champions were sent to infiltrate the town and take her down. A Horde army led by Captain Tarkan also marched on Astranaar. " - direct quote from WoWpedia.
The last part tells us that the settlement is under heavy pressure from the Horde, but as of now it remains in the hands of the Sentinels.
Using the mission tables as lore, we find that Ashenvale as a zone is contested. Astranaar is held by a force of Sentinels commanded by Sentinel Thenysil, as per the mission table missions.
I wouldn’t go as far as to completely rebuild it yet, though. That’s not something supported by lore and it’d probably be a bit of a big thing were it up to roleplayers to decide such a thing. That said, you’re definitely able to roleplay there and certain guilds (e.g Moonlight Embrace) make use of that!
Listen, Rethuriel, there’s something about Elune you should know… Oh no. It’s too late. These elves have all been infected. They may look fine now, but it’s a matter of time before they devolve into the disgusting Kal’dorei.
To be frank, I hope the Night Elves don’t allow the Demon Hunters back into society ever – I think it’ll end up the same way as the Highborne did.
Before Cataclysm, Highborne were still exiled. Part (if not most) of the appeal in them for many was the fact that they had to play things safe, and that they had to stay silent about their usage of the Arcane. Arcane was, after all, still outlawed since long. Now, with Cataclysm, the Highborne are just “normal” kaldorei again which is, in my opinion, a shame.
For Demon Hunters, it’s mostly the same case. Albeit for different reasons, Demon Hunters are also distrusted by most Night Elves. They decided to fight fire with fire and, in becoming what they are now, sacrificed everything - including their social lives. Allowing and accepting them back into society would essentially void that sacrifice. Additionally, it’d also ruin the outlaw theme of the Demon Hunters, would give Fel a weird place for Night Elves, and so on. Basically, allowing them back would take away from their identity and it’d ruin their appeal.
There’s a clear difference between the arcane for example the druids / wild moonkin use, that is within the moonwells, and the arcane mages / the Shal’dorei use. While Blizzard never specified, there seems to be a holy component / a difference in source there. We never see that kind of lunar magic have any addicting / corrupting effects for example. Then there is also the fact that the moonwells can heal. A simple font of arcane magic cannot. To just toss it all into one pot isn’t really appropriate.
Taking the outcast aspect away would dilute night elf culture even further than it already was during Cata. And for demon hunters themselves, it would ruin their entire class identity / position. The outcast role makes it interesting to RP in the first place. Additionally, demon hunters can help anyway if they want. The exiled demon hunter in Cataclysm (Sindweller I believe) was allowed to continue whatever he does after his innocence in the killing of some druids was proven.
