I am planning an upgrade and was wondering what is currently the best CPU for WoW ?
I was reading a lot of reviews/benchmarks and there is a lot of confusion about the topic.
I was thinking about i9-9900k but recent benchmarks show Ryzen 9 3900x is best ?
And OCed Ryzen 5 3600x is getting very close to i9-9900k …
Based on my own experience, Having an SSD to install wow on is significantly more important than finding the best CPU ever.
I mean i’m having a core i7 7700, and it’s running perfectly fine too.
Last I checked WoW is not as CPU dependant, so it might be overkill with an i9. Although that may change when character power is higher and we do higher numbers, it will use more of your CPU if you are using a DPS meter.
But if you are playing other high-end games I’d say go for it!
a ssd wont give your better fps and a cpu will so a cpu is more important.
always go intel for wow but the i7 9700k is a better choice if you dont need all those of a i9 9900k.
Well I am looking for a CPU that will be good enough for at least 5 years, and not only for WoW but also for occasional work with video, and yeah I usually have a lot of apps in background which I dont like to turn off.
Atm I have i5-4690k which is not bad but playing WoW and doing smth in background is near impossible with it.
this isn’t a first person shooter game dude. FPS is really not important whatsoever, as long as it’s not ridiculously low.
SSD helps with environment loading a lot. Something that an MMORPG type game really struggles with.
Well sometimes I also like to play Quake Champions and I have 1080p 144 Hz screen and would like to play WoW at settings 10 at 144 Hz but probably no CPU & GPU will be able to achieve that everywhere in WoW
Although you’re not wrong, what about loading times? An SSD will drastically improve these.
I’m more confused why one would build an incredibly expensive PC for a game that is not state of the art. With less specs you can run the game just as smooth.
And only looking at the CPU while a PC consists of so much more, is also questionable in my eyes. Why are we only looking at one part and not at the entire package to determine what the best choice will be?
Then your goal isn’t just about wow. In that case, go with a good CPU. For WOW alone, SSD is much more important.
Personally, i never played quake, but i’m playing destiny 2 and overwatch and dota and I don’t have any problems whatsoever with fps, with my core i7 7700. I’m sure the newer versions will be more than overkill.
Intel’s better though. Ryzen might be better on paper, but as far as i noticed in reviews and everything, most people still consider intel a better choice.
