Cutting-Edge as elemental shaman

This post is specifically for the elemental shaman veterans here. (Or veterans of any other spec who have gotten little love from Blizzard in recent years).

I’ve had trouble committing to a main class for years, which has caused me to miss out on a lot of content. In the upcoming expansion I would like to finally change that.
My goal is to achieve the “Cutting Edge” achievement in every patch.
After giving a lot of thought to what I expect from a class, now only Shamans and Warlocks are left.
I prefer Shamans a little more than Warlocks, but a look at the history of the class has shown that the DPS specs are rarely good.

I could of course just play a warlock and always have a spot in the raid but I think in the long run I just have more fun with the shaman.
However, knowing that I might not get the achievement simply because of my class just bothers me a lot.

Since in the forums it is often said that shamans are just bad and are never taken, I wanted to ask if it is still possible as an elemental shaman every patch to achieve the “Cutting Edge” success, even if the damage in the ranking, for example, is at the bottom.

So for “Cutting-Edge” guilds the rule Player > Class also applies?

That’s bull. It’s true elemental shamans aren’t the most recommended DPS spec out there, but there are plenty off Ele’s with the CE achievement under their name. They even have descent DPS on the Jailer…

I think meta picks are less hardcore in Raiding then M+, our raid for example has 5 hunters, 2 ele’s, 1 wl and 0 boomies and 0 mages.

Ele shammies damage is average, not bad at all!

Ofcourse we only started raiding Mythic like 3 weeks ago, but we will get there, as we have done every raid since TBC…

Random Skolex Mythic DPS parse.
This is a ST fight aswell, not the strength of Ele Shammys…

This depends in guild to guild, but FOR SURE counts for all the guilds I’ve been a part off!

You can definitely do it woth Ele, especially if you are willing to offheal as a 5th healer if needed.

Can only agree. I have been raiding mythic on my shaman since I play the game properly (BfA). No CE because I simply don’t like raiding in general and dropped out at some point but I could always compete with my fellow raiders in terms of dps. You may not be in for a world first comp, but as long as you have a good guild, you should not be afraid. I find Ele to be all around solid. We can adapt to mosts fights and have pretty consistent dmg. We don’t benefit much from something like Sludgefist in Castle Nathria where he has those 10s increased dmg intake but the overall stable dps makes up for it in many instances. Decent instant casts for mobility, spiritwalkers grace for even more mobility, some amazing offhealing possibilities (e.g. on Kaelthas) and most raids may want you for Wind Rush eventually (Artificer, Nzoth) and occasionally Tremor. Enahance is also pretty good for Windfury, although take it that you prefer a ranged class.

But overall it remains to be seen how we will fare in DF. Maybe they add some valuable raid utility. Or they completely undertune us … either way from my experience knowledge is always more worth it than playing the current “best spec”.

Shaman isnt bad, its just not meta.

It could defintly achieve CE, it can be considered a riskier choice to main a specc instead of a class. As ur chasing viability of a specific specc instead of 1 in 3 options of a class.

But yeah. Shaman isnt in a bad place, theyre not top picks, but they arent near the bottom either.
