Technically you are correct, but the community is adamant against it.
The actual point of manual dungeon group finding is the ability to cherry pick classes.
Social aspect is a non-argument imo as you can queue as a group, and realistically, you don’t play with the same people even twice in SoD anyway.
I returned to WLK for this very reason, and as I was itching to visit Eversong, I created a blood elf pally. Waiting times are low even as dps (talent tree woes), and I’m mostly having a blast. Unfortunately, I can only recommend the same if you want to visit these old dungeons. Both versions are rush fest, with WLK offering further content and no level cap.
Apart from SoD being so rushy that to me it is retail…
To me it’s two dimensions. The class / spec rotations, the world (phase) we play, the quests, the pacing. Ironically, for me retail is absolute entirely a single player game.
RDF is simply a tool that is freeing me from glaring at chats instead of playing, or smashing a macro “/4 LFG XY 37 prot pally” as part of my 9-6-9 rotation, included in my (non-existent) Judgment script.
In WLK I find a group in seconds as tank, or minutes as dps.
Classic is like my childhood memories of going to the shop 25 km away with 6 huge bags, filling them 20-30 kg each, and then hauling it back, 3 km walking, rest two trams. It’s the authentic off-grid natural life, but.
Since you have to make some effort to form a group and travel there you are more locked in and focused on the game. More immersed too.
Dungeon finder and many other QoL are a double edged sword.
Direct connecting flight paths is a good QoL that doesn’t take away from the game.
Auto learning new spells without visiting trainer is a bad QoL that makes cities feel dead.
One QoL i would like to see though, is being able to queue for BG’s from anywhere through an interface option. I dont think that would take away from the game but instead add to the game as i think it would lead to more ppl hanging around outside of orgrimmar and ironforge to duel inbetween matches.
Because it isn’t a modern day…non social/don’t talk to anyone…conveyor belt dungeon simulator that just teleports you to whatever x dungeon that you don’t care about and don’t even know where it exists in the world.
If you want that hollow, unfulfilling experience. Retail is there for you.
You people cried about wanting RDF bringing to WoTLKC, you all said the same damn thing. ‘Ree easier groups means more people playing, game will feel alive’. How alive does it feel? It’s dead.
These aren’t Classic players, they’re modern players disguised as Classic ones.
Well, I do think that this is part of it but playing devils advocate here: To be fair, WOTLK is at its end, literally. Cataclysm is going to be forced onto those players whether they want it or not and since there will be no era preservation I wonder how many dipped out because they didn’t see any point in investing time into it since in a few months it will all be unappealing to them anyway.
If you ran a poll through players whose WoW experience has always included RDF, I’d bet over 75% of them would not know where Maraudon is on the map. (Mara is just an example, there sure are more)
In the same line, RDF teleports you to the instance. This reduces “dead time” to zero once the group is made. Without it, even when you fill, usually one or more players will not he right outside the dungeon’s entrance, and thus players will have some time waiting for them. This encourages socialization. Maybe someone will say “oh I really like/hate this dungeon for whatever reason”, and a conversation will begin there. This will, in turn, increase the bonding between party members, promoting teamwork and communication. Someone said in RDF if you wipe someone just leaves and the system replaces it. This is far more unlikely in a game without it, for multiple reasons, the bonding being one of them. People start to care for their fellow teammates. Someone explain how that is bad.
I ain’t gonna say the current system of spamming LFG channel is perfect, though. As others mentioned, having a RDGF (G for group) would be nice. A system that basically spammed the chat for you (in idea, not literally). Once group was formed you would still have to move, instead of getting teleported, and thus only the tedious work of spamming would be removed. Maybe it could have both the option of setting up a LFM or a LFG (somewhat parallel to the option of being the group guide in the RDF tool).
But all in all, if I were to choose between no improved system at all and RDF, it’s not even a question: keep that RDF bs in retail, where it belongs.
I’ve created a character on the underdog faction, horde.
I’ve seen several players questing alongside me, sometimes we had to diverge to not disturb each other (taking quest mobs). You know, not an ant hill, but several players.
Cities are not busy like Hong Kong, except Dalaran does look like a concert show hall every evening. Thankfully this game has no body blocks!
From 15 onward I used dungeon finder to level (with questing in between, which by now is just rep farm, my choice), and as tank it’s consistently near-instant, as dps it’s up to a few minutes. Granted, out in the world every warrior or paladin is wearing a shield.
I dont want to see any change on ERA realms for sure, but this ‘‘no change’’ speach is a nonsense in SOD, when some classes already work simular like in retail. I want to play the game but forget about the primitive bull**** like no summstones, mail delay etc. I wrote a topic about it, i will not repeat myself 20 times. We need some changes in sod for sure, dungeon finder is not important for me, but a group finder tool would be nice. Sod is all about making the game better, making classes OP isnt enough, with this class design the base lvl 60 content will be meaningless.
So those who always lobby against the changes in SOD are simply hypocrats, forexample: ‘‘i dont want to see any changes in the game’’ but i enjoy 1 hitting ppl with arcane surge+arcane blast.
i appreciate every answer given and every single of your opinions
nevertheless:
if u value time, a dungeon finder is the answer - there are some people who wonder maybe…why waste 20min LFG? when u only got …say 1 hour spare to play ?
So many dungeons that lately are not run by many because the effort to get there is too big of an obstacle…same goes with FP’s
if any of you guys would have valued classic - you
a) would have played it (like me)
b) you would ask for game improvements to reduce dead time
and
c) you would not compare SOD to classic -
SOD has nothing to do with classic anymore, it feels broken and like a 1dimensional, linear game, where u level up so fast; get to the point to do incursions, be raid ready in 2days and ez p z…ignoring all other aspects that made the game great
so yea the Dungeon Finder Idea was simply there to make it more convenient for the players to run the majority of its content and to keep it alive
but based on your responses it feels like the majority of you are the antisocial core of this game, neglecting progress and improvements that could make the game better and more accessible in all its angles
you say NO to dungeon finder, yet you do not even think about PVP - why do you get into a pvp game so fast ?
…is it maybe because…all realms are connected and thus the playerbase can easily join / exit a game? …and upon ragequitting the player is easily replaced by another who wants to do pvp?
if u take that for granted…you “anti Dungeon-finder” NEY-sayers, are hyppocrits
there was a time in classic where there was only a realm-intern queue for PVP - sometimes waiting for 20 to 40 minutes to play a single pvp-match
anyways…summer is coming …sod playerbase is dropping …
so yea…id rather paly D4 where i can instantly port to dungeons and spam those
hehehe
i would say none of you anti social hyppocrits have any idea what classic was like back in 2005 #Mic DROP
Dungeon finder was never one of the things that sucked… only negative side is the +dmg and hp boost you get for matchup with randoms. It punishes you for trying to group up with people the oldschool way
Things that disgust me about retail wow:
Worgen, goblin, pandaren, demon hunters, draktyr evokers.
Pet battles
Archeology (if it still exists?)
Epics too easy to get.
Talent tree design.
