Daakara claw rage ability bugged?

I got the lynx phase for the first time today on the Daakara encounter in Zul’Aman. As a healer, it completely caught me off guard. I had to go back and look at my details death log to see what was going on.

The first time he used this ability, the target went 100-0 in 3 seconds. During that time, the target took 233,200 damage, while also receiving 72,930 healing. The second time, it also took 3 seconds, this time it was 172,700 damage done, and 37,000 healing received. Is this intended? If so, how to deal with it? The only up-to-date guide I can find says you should use immunities like ice block, bubble or bop to cancel it, but what if you don’t have that? Our group comp was 3x dk, ele shaman, resto druid.

5 man heroics are laughably easy this expansion, but this is the first time I genuinely don’t know how to approach something next time. I feel like I have nothing at my disposal to counter 233k damage on 1 target in 3 seconds.

Edit: I should also mention that Daakara used several melee swings on the target during this time period, apart from claw rage. Could this be the same buggy interaction with charges that we saw in WotLK, where any boss with a charge ability could oneshot clothies if the bosses melee swing timer hit just right?

From what I’ve learned, Claw Rage does not do that much damage on it’s own, but its increased by debuff that roots the player.

Tank should taunt Daakara ASAP after he charge at someone with Claw Rage, to redirect remaining duration of that ability on themselves, receiving reduced damage that is not multiplied by debuff.

As for the melee swing, I have no idea if that’s supposed to happen, it’s clear however that melee swing damage is multiplied by that root debuff as well.

Countering this ability is not on healer or DPS, it’s done by tank.
If they do not taunt, the target of Claw Rage will die.

It being a tank mechanic makes sense. I guess the quick how-to guide I watched was just off then, calling it a healer check.
