Dalaran Crater fall death

I know I’m late to the party, but what was the idea behind this? I mean, someone in Blizzarad actually decided to implement a portal which leads you to death by falling and the closest graveyard is far away?

Doesn’t sound like somethind Blizzard usually does, so I’m wondering, has ever been any explanation why on earth is this portal implemented like this?

don’t cry poor dk

git gud.

Well it does have warning sign at portal telling u there is deadly fall. And there are always Goblin Gliders.

I know there are ways to byspass it, I am jsut geninely interested of the idea behind this implementation. But then again, hardly anyone here would know the details I presume.

Well idea is basically , it would teleport u in the middle of Dalaran if Dalaran was still there, since Dalaran as a whole structure was moved, there is simply notihing under left. If someone would remove whole Stormwind as a structure together with sewers under it and you took portal to Stormwind, it would drop you too. Its just a fun immersive thing.

Im pretty sure you dont die, if you are full hp.

I think you end up with 5 or 10% hp left. Something around this.

Wasn’t it because in legion it was part of a quest line for an artifact for mages, who have slow fall to prevent death from falling?

There is a warning sign in front of the portal, and multiple classes have tools to prevent them from dying there. Druids, mages, warriors and priests comes to mind straight away.

You do, unless you have something that makes you not die(rogues cheat death perhaps?) Otherwise they have changed it. I noob died there once on one of my characters.

Pretty sure it is just there because it is a fun little details. The city was moved, afterall.

Not all druids have access to moonkin form for flap and cat form would still take you down to 10%

DKs, Shamans, Rogues, Monks and Warlocks are out of luck.

This was also a great griefing spot on PVP realms during winter’s veil.
A rogue or any character really would wait on the ground and gank low health players who landed.

This is one of the best things in the game. Get a glider before going.

Think Wild Charge works if you pop into Travel Form(resetting the fall distance by leaping 20 yards forward). Not 100% sure tho, it’s been a while since I’ve been there on the druid. It’s a talent though. Other than that you can reduce fall dmg through cat form regardless of spec. If it’s like people are saying, that you drop down to 5-10% health now, cat form could be a thing doing that(unless this is now default for any class), but it doesn’t really sound like it from the OP.

You also have the parachutes from engineering, which anyone can use. I always carry some of those on all my characters.

Druids can simply mount mid air, that’s not the issue.

Ah well, I guess there is no specific concusion, the whole thing it’s simply for the lols it seems. Earlier today I died from fall damage on my Paladin due to lag, so didn’t manage to use shield. But I did go from 100% to 0%.

Probably because you pressed “W”, which made you move forward while falling and into slightly deeper spot which results in death. As long as you stood still, you’d survive with any class.

I have to admit this has been my experience, if it’s the dalaran crater portal from New Dalaran you don’t die from the fall. If a mage ports you, you are toast.

Can mages port to dalaran crater?

Yes, you buy a book in the northrend dalaran, but you need the one in one of the scarlet dungeons before it shows up.

The room with the last boss that fires flames in a circle. Scarlet halls.

Well I’m getting that on my mages.
