Dark Iron Assistance

Hey, I recently decided I wanted to start RP’ing a Dark Iron, too, but I know just about nothing of Dark Iron lore, or Dwarves in general, and while I can indeed just read on it, there was a few things I wanted to ask here, first.

See, he’s an old, grumpy Dwarf, holding onto old values, is what I’m intending. Would this mean that he’s more stubborn to keep praising Thaurissan or is Moira generally very accepted by the Dark Iron as “Empress”, or is she just referred to as one on the Council of Hammers?

Also, I am unsure on how Dark Iron Paladins would work? To this end I’ve considered if it’d be possible to make him more about fire, y’know, to just pass off the Light-based spells as fire, instead, could help make the flaming beard and IC feature, too, or is that idea too “out there”?

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Regarding the Thaurissan and Moira situation you could kinda go two ways.

If you are anti-Alliance AKA not really a good guy you could hate Moira for being a traitor siding with the faction that killed Thaurissan and be a ‘‘evil character’’ but that do limit you.

Or you can be someone who follows Moira due to she is the mother of Thaurissan’s heir and your character could be more loyal to the child above her.

In the end Moira is the leader over the Dark Iron’s that siding with the Alliance, I do not know who leads those who refuse to join Moira’s faction and she is part of the ruling counil of Ironforge representing the Dark Irons.

When it comes to the Paladin class it is a bit tricky due to we haven’t really seen Dark Iron’s being on good terms with anyone over the past hundreds of years since War of the Three Hammers so I doubt they would’ve gotten much involved with the Paladins of Humans on same level as the Bronzebeard’s and the most ‘‘Paladins’’ we seen from Dark Irons are the I forgot the NPC name now but some type of ‘‘Officer’’ so it is tricky indeed and I hope others can get more details about it.

As for the beard I mean I suppose the flaming beard is IC since it is actually fiery so I fail to see why not being a magical MMORPG game and everything but there are plenty of Dark Iron RP’ers who RP that their beard is not on fire so that is up to you.

It depends on how old ‘old’ is. If he was alive for the War of the Three Hammers (which is possible, given Muradin is roughly 250 and still in fighting shape), he could definitely retain older, almost chauvinistic pride in his clan, and believe in their enduring right to the throne of Ironforge.

According to Chronicles III, Moira is popular among the clan for liberating them from Thaurissan, though some did defect from her during the events of Cataclysm due to her tenuous-at-best control of Shadowforge and Blackrock Mountain as a whole.
It’s very much a question of how you approach it, I feel; if you can justify why your character feels that way, and why they support the old regime, without implying they’re deviating massively from Moira’s rule, especially given Thaurissan’s reign coincides with some fairly hard times for the Dark Irons. Openly praising Thaurissan, who is largely responsible for summoning Ragnaros and creating two centuries of hardship, might implicate your character as a renegade at best, and a traitor at worst, especially given we know there’s some Dark Irons who want to return to having Ragnaros as their leader. I would advise that you think carefully about it, but if you want to be an antagonist character, that’s an option for you.

The Anvilrage Officers exist, and use holy spells, but we don’t really know if they’re proper Paladins or not. There’s the possibility he simply trained as a Paladin after the Dark Irons returned to the fold during the events of Cataclysm.

As a hypothetical character, I could suggest allowing him to retain a firm pride in his clan, believing Moira’s son (as legitimate heir to both Shadowforge and Ironforge) being the means of restoring their ascendancy over both thrones, which could set his views as being fairly traditional while also looking to the future. He may have trained as a Paladin following the return of the Dark Iron clan to Ironforge, or simply occupy a slight grey area in the Anvilrage Clan, and their use of martial priests.

Thank you both for the replies, helped a lot!

Also:

The Dark Iron paladins (first boss Dazar’alor) yell something about the Light. If that’s just the good old “they learned it from the others” situation or something else, remains a mystery.

Runescroll really hit the nail on the head with her response, however, it might be worth clarifying that it wasn’t the late Emperor Dagran Thaurissan whom summoned Ragnaros but one of his ancestors. He merely pledged the clan to the elemental lord.

Correct.

‘’ Realizing that supremacy over the dwarves could no longer be achieved by his own force of arms and sensing imminent defeat, Thaurissan, along with the Seven delved into forbidden lore and summoned the great Firelord Ragnaros at the area now known as the Molten Core to destroy his foes once and for all. Horribly underestimating the raw power of the Lord of Fire, Thaurissan, the Seven, and many other Dark Irons were killed instantly in the resulting immolation which destroyed an enormous portion of the Redridge Mountains and formed the great black peak of Blackrock Spire. Horrified at what devilry Thaurissan had brought upon the land, the combined armies of the dwarves ceased their march on the Dark Iron clan, thus ending the War of the Three Hammers.’’

Hey, just hijacking the thread a little, is that guild still up and running? Was thinking of trying out Dwarf RP and was thinking between Dark Iron and Wildhammer seeing the new customization options coming, but was unsure if there was a DI guild around anymore :grimacing:

Echoing Doltri, I just unlocked Dark Iron and definitely want to get into roleplay with him. If anybody’s doing some shady Dark Iron stuff I’d love to get involved!

To the best of my knowledge, there’s no Dark Iron specific guilds that are currently active on Argent Dawn; the best options are for the currently active Dwarf-specific ones. The only clan-specific option that comes to mind is Wildhammer-focused, Clan Stormheart.
I’m not sure about shady initiatives, but if you’re confident in your ideas, you could easily begin one!

I see, thank you for the answer

Whilst it is a vague note, I thought I’d mention it anyway regarding the Anvilrage Officers:

We do see them in kneeling/Praying seat afore Fire elementals which does suggest to me that Paladins and light wielders to some extend of the Dark Irons would of / could of taken a fiery approach and see it as calling of the purity of fire and flame? To further add to this, the Dark Irons have a fare well a kin to “Light guide you.” but instead it goes “May the forge fires guide ye.” and even Anvil-Thane Thurgaden speaks of following/answering to the voice of the Mountain, Blackrock.

The other popular route I’ve heard/seen some go with Paladin’s specifically are being upholders of law, I think drawing insperation from the Ring of Law from ingame.

Personally I think you can do either or combine them both, worship the purity of flame and the seeing the ancient traditions/laws as a code of which to conduct your character with, being a ol’ grump and all!

On the notion of the fiery hair/beards I cannot offer you a official explanation but rather a simple theory which goes like so:

Due to the dwarf’s ancestory being Earthen, titan born creation made to help shape the mountains and deep places of Azeroth their off spring has been granted unique adoptation of the elementals, your regular dwarf being able to use the classic Stoneform through meditation ect, the Dark Iron through their pact/enslavement to the firelord and proximity to the Molten core have granted them a unique adaption of the Stoneform to that depicted of the ability Fireblood ingame.

As said, a vague head-cannon-y-theory at best to explain it away, alternatively you can always say your character’s beard/hair isn’t lit, I believe that too is generally acceptable.
