To be fair, a dark ranger could be a warrior or a rogue as well. Lorthemar was a Farstrider and he’s more a warrior than a hunter, and most of the Dark rangers comes from there on Blood elf side. And since the Night elf side is made of the few sentinel defenders that were there when Teldrassil burned, they could pretty much be warriors and rogues as well.
Tying it to hunters or Death Knights would be weird.
Of course it’s a big deal. Night warrior was a new thing with no history. Dark Rangers have been part of WoW for a long time, so yeah many people would like to see that fantasy be implemented into the game.
I personally like some of aesthetic, but as a class I wouldn’t really be interested since we already have hunter which is close enough to Dark Rangers already. So if they just tie the aesthetic to hunters for instance, that’d be great.
They should not tie it to just blood elves though. If only the horde got access to Dark Rangers that would not go down well.
IF the rumours are true and we’re getting Darkfallen as an allied race then that would provide a large part of the fantasy and people would be able to play the actual class that they think best fits the Dark Ranger fantasy (and at the same time allow casters to fill the San’Layn fantasy). Which is cool.
This is how I see it, the NE got a whole new customisation because of something Tyrande did in the story.
Why can’t we have the equivalent on Horde for BE. Considering how they share most of the BE customisations with VE it might even mean both factions get them.
Honestly it’s not just the look people want, as A LONG time avid DR supporter the look is nice but I want the skills and Hunter does not HAVE them skills I hate how disingenious it is for someone to say a Hunter is a DR because they’re not.
Hunter doesnt use magic apart from Arcane shot and is fully in tune with NATURE! Drak Rangers are DEAD! they have no connection to nature as they’re abominations like Death Knights and they use dark magic with their arrows which are deliberating…
Dark Rangers are not simply Hunter’s once the ranger died they stopped being a hunter… I really hate that logic people use just because both classes use bows.
The recent confirmation is that “Darkfallen” just embody all undead elves - that includes, San’layn, Dark Rangers, Elven Death Knights and the Undead Night Elves from BFA.
So I don’t think “Dark Ranger” will qualify as a new race and as far as new “class” goes - again, I’m not sure because we’ve already got Demon Hunter for Night Elves and Blood Elves. I just can’t see them giving another “elf” class to these two races again.
Which is fine honestly, but again they’re still dead and maybe simular to current classes but their class abilities should reflect that, if we get Darkfallen as an allied race I’ll definitely be rerolling but to say any of them are the same as ordinary classes is just pure disingenuous.
I think it will just be through the Darkfallen racials as a whole, where we get to see their general theme.
As far as their classes go - I think they’d just use the regular classes that all races have access to. I mean the playable Night Elf Priest doesn’t use any forms of “Elune Magic” or “Silver Light.”
I do wish Blizzard would do this, but it’s just something we have to accept. A Darkfallen Hunter or Rogue could be RP’d as a Dark Ranger, but we wouldn’t have a Dark Ranger class, per say. Indeed, in some instances, the Rogue class can work better for Dark Ranger than the Hunter class.
And of course - I’d also play a Darkfallen Mage because I love the idea of a San’layn Blood Mage.
The only thing that we have against what we want is that it’s obvious that “Darkfallen” would be a Horde thing - we’ve got nothing to indicate that actual playable High Elves would come, in exchange for the Darkfallen Elves…or something where the Alliance gets some sort of Night Elf-based race.
The obvious thing is Nightelves will rejoin the Alliance BE’s the Horde or they might surprise us and let us choose because after all both models are already essentially on both factions.
