Headcanon is any assumption made about canon based upon anything besides what is official. There is no headcanon in saying that there are Alliance dark rangers because you can make them. It would be headcanon to say “there are Alliance dark rangers because Anduin is buddies with Sylvanas now and so he accepted them all”; I’m not claiming any lore assumption, I’m just following what is presented in-game, that being their simple inclusion on the character creator screen.
Back when Shadowlands launched there were folk arguing that the black people added were non-canon because there was no “lore explanation” and also readily used the gameplay mechanics argument. Same applies to the new drow-like night elf skin and the dark and sand troll options for dark spears.
Where has Blizzard ever said that an in-game skin or face option is non-canon? Whether that be in tweets, interviews, twitch livestream.

Yes you are, by ignoring the actual lore we have! You have literally ignored where we have given the actual lore and are arguing around that, by banging on about them being a customisation option. So is the Ashbringer, so I am now going to wield it on my Paladin as well as being the Highlord because and I quote “Customisation options are lore.”
And it is with this quote that I realise I am arguing with a ten year old, calling someone well read a nerd, whilst playing world of warcraft and caring enough to post on the forums, is literally generalised nerd behaviour and I haven’t seen someone call someone a nerd for being well read since primary school.

Decent tbh, I was shocked cuz I simply was unaware, Id rather it being in the hands of an actual lore figure who will be significant(ish, who knows) in future content/story being that Ashbringer is argubly the most storied weapon in the franchise than some barely existant protag, and Lady Liadrin has come into her own as one of the most…famous and accomplished Paladins in the history of the franchise
