I should clarify that when I write Guard and Noble RPers I don’t mean every one of them. A handful of socialites can form a clique that enables their antiques, to the point that these Dark Rangers can turn into their Banshee form and raise the dead and they cheerlead the poor oppressed undead wight as it’s merely self-defense.
I’m not sure why you’re commenting this as I basically wrote the same thing, ie. we can’t stop them.
As a matter of fact I simply stated why your approach in Silvermoon doesn’t work in Stormwind City. Not advocate something else we should be doing instead.
hangs head in dismay Mr Cuddles Illidari Sir, I know you sacrificed everything to be in SW nightly, flirting with the women. But that isn’t what we pay you Universal Credit to do and if you do not take the commitments you made seriously, we shall be forced to sanction you.
The line goes staticy with much screaming and swearing about how they sacrificed everything and its what all the Dh’s friends do.
I was under the assumption this thread was collectively working towards maybe trying to create a workable solution to the issues we face, rather than just saying “that doesn’t work” whilst offering no alternative in the same breath other than slightly negative comments and idealistic moaning along the lines of, without directly mentioning it, that WoW RP is unsavable and woe is us.
It’s mostly to learn general opinion over this matter but it doesn’t mean that this thread can’t help people come to some summarized conclusion on how to deal with this matter.
Ah, I’m finally free from the oppressive matriarchy of Sylvanas. I’ve killed some of my Kaldorei brethren here and there, fought the Alliance during the war, no one knows I’m no longer working with the Forsaken… Everyone sees me as a potential enemy… What should I do now ?
Heads over to Stormwind for a drink and socializing, even if his Undead nature doesn’t require either of those.
What ? Do you have a problem ? That’s awfully zealoty, y’know. Pff, paladins. Hating me for just being undead.
You assumed correctly. I’m also at the liberty of stating when something another person posts isn’t applicable.
If your message gets across to the masses who don’t read the forums or treat consequences as something other people should care about while they hit it off in the Blue Recluse cosplaying as Sylvanas and shooting the barmaid for not welcoming them with open arms, I’m all for it.
I simply wrote why your experiences in Silvermoon are fundamentally different to what’s been happening in Stormwind City for several years/expansions.
I don’t know what could possibly be a more canon representation of the dark rangers rejoining their former allies than… the dark rangers joining their former allies. The in-game dialogue gives the explanation, and even if we don’t see Tyrande’s exact reaction spelled out for us, we do have the option to play a dark ranger character who serves the Alliance.
Maybe there will be lore developments including these dark rangers, or maybe it’ll just be a tweet in a few weeks time, but the baseline is that they are playable and therefore canon. There wouldn’t have been a line of dialogue saying they wish to join the Alliance if it wasn’t meant to be taken literally, because that’s what these dark rangers have done. It takes a lot more headcanon to assume their request was rejected and that these customisations are just “game mechanics” than to just take the NPCs and therefore Blizzard’s word for it.
Why would they add these options if they were going to then tweets “oh yeah these aren’t canon ignore them :))”? That didn’t happen with Night Warrior eyes, the only other comparison to be made. There is an entire questline justifying why they join - Alliance hero helps retake Lordaeron, some dark rangers wanna help the Alliance.
The fact the OP of this thread immediately went on to create another thread about creating an RP lawbook (almost explicitly because of wanting to play out these headcanon guards that don’t appear in-game) shows that this is a very typical AD reaction of “I don’t agree with new lore thing, so I need more lore before I’ll accept it”.
I don’t even care that much about dark rangers, I just know it takes a lot more mental gymnastics to assume the entire questline was for nothing and that dark rangers are a non-canon addition than it does to just… take the game designer’s word for it?
This is another big point for me and it’s something that is being seen even on Horde-side with the influx of new Dark Ranger characters.
People just… don’t RP a Dark Ranger, they RP a Blood Elf with red eyes. It’s upsetting, since I and a lot of others try our bests to be accurate to the fantasy of the DRs but ultimately the reputation of the characters is dragged down immensely by everyone else.
I don’t want that to get worse with people just deciding to waltz into Stormwind and dodge consequences ad infinitum.
Project started back in February, it was brought onto forums only recently only to gain more coverage and has absolutely nothing to do with a topic raised in this thread.
Lmfao, honestly if I didnt have problems dedicating time to several chars at once I would be super tempted to start up a Stormwinds JobCentre for the unemployed monster char.
Wish, they wish to rejoin their people. Wish =/= done. It simply doesn’t, literally someone above has linked the actual dialogue. Velonara says they are free to do so, but she worries about the Alliance actually accepting them. So taking it on Blizzards words, as you have pushed us to do, there is no supporting lore that the Darkfallen have joined the Alliance just that they want to. That isn’t head canon that is the literal quest.
Yes there was an entire questline to bring lore as to why the nightwarrior customisations can make sense… You are literally proving our point here, there is no lore for it.
Ermmm Stormwind guards do appear in lore, I would probably point you to any of the books set in SW, or the fact there are… guards… in SW… right now…
I actually think this is a good idea, then you wouldn’t have so many openly practicing Necromancers running around SW, raising the dead. Or Warlocks walking around with their demons running around. Or Undead (at this point still Forsaken as per the quest) running around and just lolling or ganging up on guard RPers with their friends for consequences for their actions…
A lot of things are playable and can be done in game while confirmed by devs as not being canon. It’s just a customization.
They haven’t. As pointed above, some wish they could join. Velonara is worried they won’t be accepted. That’s literally all the questline says. You’re confusing future happenings with past and present happenings. It hasn’t happened yet and suggesting otherwise is ludicrous.
Because they won’t ? No one is saying that but people like… you. You’re literally presenting an argument against a statement which was never made… Yet storywise this hasn’t happened yet.
That’s not what happens. Alliance hero spies and helps as a side thing on Calia’s request. It doesn’t justify why they join because they don’t ‘‘join’’ as you put it. Velonara talks about some dark ranger’s desire to join. We’re all going in circles here because people simply ignore the obvious self obvious facts to justify something stupid.
Guards in SW aren’t headcanon. Do you even know the meaning of the word ?
I do. And that’s why I care about dark ranger RP being done right and in accordance with the lore instead of becoming another cheap meme in Stormwind. If you don’t care maybe let those who do debate this. Mhm ?
They have done, because I’ve done the quest and therefore unlocked night elf and void elf dark rangers and can create one right now. That is an Alliance-aligned dark ranger character; whether their relation is tenuous or not is yet to be confirmed, but the confirmation lies plain in sight within the option being available.
Why… do you keep… talking like…
Yeah man ofc there’s guards in the lore. What there aren’t are any confirmation that these lads are going around demanding dark ranger licenses.
At the end of the day it’s apparent from the thread your headcanon is set in stone and there isn’t much point presenting any kind of logical argument against it. Blizzard could have easily made dark rangers Horde-only (like Night Warrior eyes were Alliance-only), but didn’t. Going into Dragonflight I really doubt dark rangers are going to be a major focus so your best bet if you need confirmation that this was an informed decision and not some intern accidentally pressing the “add dark rangers to alliance” button is to aggressively tweet until some other intern confirms it.
No one is requesting Dark Ranger licenses from my knowledge, just beating them up/chasing them off as many have stated, they arent welcome by the general populace of Stormwind, beating up/chasing off those who dont /lolevade+snarky remark ofc
Are you ignoring the lore, what Velonara literally tells you, because it seems like you are. It literally seems like you are taking customisation options are lore, but ignoring the actual lore. Please show me where Velonara, or anyone during that quest, tells us the Nelf/high/void elf Dark Rangers have ALREADY joined the Alliance and not just that they wish do.
Because I can’t help but wonder why I am having to explain this to someone I am imagining RP’s??
My headcanon, you are literally taking a customisation option as canon, rather than the lore we do have. I think its you headcanoning here… I mean by that logic every Paladin CAN rp with the Ashbringer, because its a customisation option, so why not?
“X is a problem that I would like to see more lore on before people start RPing it as if there’s no issue.” “Actually there is no issue because of Y”
“Y is not a good source because it isn’t specific enough.” “Actually there is no issue because of Y AND Z”
“Z is not a good source because it is proven to be inconsistent with lore in the past.”
Its literally a circular argument at this point, someone new comes in brings up the points already disproven and then goes away again, only for someone new to come, not read the actual post and then start all over again.
Maybe we could do a great big intervention, where we invite the dark rangers and the paladins of Stormwind, to come together sit down and wholesomely agree to share the Cathederal district.
And everyone else who has done the quest says otherwise. Gameplay mechanics aren’t lore. Demon pets in Stormwind aren’t lore. San’Layn you can now make on the Alliance side aren’t lore since San’Layn didn’t join the Alliance nor is there any indication to it and the customization option is darkfallen, which include more than dark rangers.
It’s baffling that people will even take a gameplay thing for lore when so many ludicrous stuff are available in game. Every paladin is a highlord, every paladin is the Ashbringer, every death knight is the Deathlord. All according to gameplay mechanics. The weapons are in game (legion) hence you have them along with a thousand other chars.
Because… You say things that are just… Eh.
Then learn how to express yourself instead of saying that guards are headcanon ?
Have you read Aristotle’s treaty on logic to say what is a logical argument and what isn’t ?
Headcanon is assuming dark rangers are now part of the Alliance and eligible to go in Stormwind due to gameplay reasons when the quests indicate only an intention that is yet to materialize when the quest itself proves that because the NPC in question says she’s worried IF they’d even be accepted among the Alliance. If they would have joined already she wouldn’t be worried.
