Data folder location

2019-06-13 Thursday

On my old computer, which has recently become unable to run WoW,
the “C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft” folder
contains 2 folders and 4 files.

The Data folder is 70.0 GB.
The retail folder is 143 MB.

.build.info is 1 KB
DivxDecoder.dll is 404 KB
Scan-64.dll is 143 KB
World of Warcraft Launcher.exe is 4,589 KB

I have just bought a new computer on which to run WoW.
It is still down loading WoW.
The new computer has a 1TB HDD D drive presently unused.
The C drive consists of 2 x 256GB SSDs.
Assuming the folder structure will be similar,
I should like to move the “Data” folder to the D drive.

Can anyone tell me how to achieve that please ?

Just move the whole game to the D drive. It’s not realy possible to have just data folder on a different logical drive. It has to be in the same folder as the retail folder, otherwise it doesn’t work. Game uses relative paths to know where to look for data.

Also even if this was possible you wouldn’t benefit from running wow from SSD drive if the data would be on HDD drive. Main reason to run wow from SSD is to speed up the loading times and loading is the process when the game loads stuff from data folder. Thus the result would be as if you would run the whole game from HDD.
