Still baffles me how Blizzard are allowing datamining for story content that has major spoilers throughout the expansion no other MMO allows that.
I know some people will say it is to generate hype but there is no hype being generated it’s just straight up spoilers which every player should experience when they get to that content but being able to crack in files to get voice covers and cinematics is like stupid.
Yes you can avoid WoWHead but when they plaster it on front page it’s hard to avoid it.
But ah well least got something less to look forward to and can focus on something else.
Blizzard are scraping the bottom of the barrel in WoW and seeing how they will soon have strong competition, they are desperate for attention. At this point, anything that gets people talking is welcome. So they don’t even try to hide their content. They could, like how they did with Saurfang cinematics, but they don’t.
WOW stopped being about lore a long time ago. Nowadays most people rush trough the questlines (which are short and boring) and immediately begin their neverending grind of M+, better gear, choreghast and other farming in order to stay relevant (did someone say rio?) and be able to enjoy the endgame.
They even had to timegate a QUESTLINE so people who care about questing dont finish the whole amazing and well written story in 5h and cancel sub.
If anyone cares about a nice and rich questing experience with many stories and adventures to undergo, one should try ESO for example.
I don’t want story spoilers, but it’s increasingly hard to avoid it when the various fansites do everything they can to push it into your face. YouTube is a field littered with landmines. Every video on your front page can be a spoiler with a revealing thumbnail or title. The forums require strict discipline. The moment you see that something errs toward spoiler territory it’s just abort abort abort!
It’s really annoying.
The ideal story experience is of course that you experience it yourself in the game. It would be nice if Blizzard did their utmost to ensure that players weren’t robbed that experience.
Right now there’s seemingly some Sylvannas stuff going around. I unfortunately know a little bit, which is more than I want to know, but luckily not so much that it has robbed me the in-game experience. But damn, it’s very hard to avoid spoilers in WoW these days if you also want to partake in the community engagement otherwise.
I remember when Icecrown Citadel was released and most people in my guild avoided the internet because they didn’t want the ending spoiled. And we killed the Lich King and got to see the cutscene as we were meant to and it was awesome.
But that was one cutscene.
With Shadowlands it’s constant. Every week there’s a new chapter to the story and seemingly the fansites datamine a week ahead. So you basically have to avoid the internet for several months if you don’t want parts of your Shadowlands story experience spoiled.
Which is understandable, but as the days gone by, new ways have found it’s way to datamine things that are even BARELY finished and yet, all a person has to do, is avoid it.
I can’t speak much for myself on that regard, I spoil myself entirely and still enjoy every last minute of it when I get to it ingame, but that is just me.
ESO not that brilliant in engaging story FFXIV does that for me at least the main scenario quests cutscenes and all.
But I do enjoy other stuff in WOW raiding and arena but I do wish they encrypt the cutscenes in WoW.
I am just expecting in a couple months time we see Anduin going full Darth Vader cutscene being datamined and I certainly do not want to see that on the front page of a fan website where they use sleezy ways of obtaining it.
Let the player get it first and experience it not the dataminers
Hehe…avoid wowhead and iv is easy…since i search builds etc. I type what i like to see and avoid spoilers…
I can’t avoid gf that will spam me as soon as a spoiler comes out…so it’s impossible…!!
I found wow videos on youtube. if you into wow content then you gonna face a lot of unwanted spoilers thanks to youtube feeding thing. i saw 2 videos and a voice clip of something but im lazy for voice clips
Won’t mention any names since that could be misunderstood as rival advertising and the mods already have a habit of deleting my posts left and right for little to no reason.
Let’s just say it’s a company that grew exponentially in recent years, with a lot of success in the area of e-sports and has beaten Blizzard in rankings both on the e-sports competitive platform and on twitch streaming viewership.
Said company has plans for an MMO centered around their characters’ universe, which is quite vast. They also have a number of prominent ex-wow developers and designers working for them.
It is in my opinion unreasonable to ask that a player avoids the internet and all things WoW, and otherwise completely isolates himself from the community, just so he can play WoW and experience the story without spoilers.
That is not ideal.
And for what? So Wowhead and MMO-Champion can get some clicks on their websites? C’mon.
Like I said, I would want for Blizzard to encrypt those cutscenes and cinematics in advance. And if that is not sufficient, then they ought to lay down some authority and simply demand that the fansites don’t datamine and publish certain unreleased content. After all, the act of datamining is only allowed so long as Blizzard allows it. It is Blizzard’s intellectual property, not that of the fansites.
If you think RIOTs mmo is gonna kill wow just…
hilarious.
Star Wars failed to kill WoW, Elder Scrolls failed to kill WoW, Final Fantasy failed to kill WoW, etc. etc.
I fail to see how RIOT will, especially since their “overwatch killer” VALORANT did… alright, didn’t kill anything though. I mean lots of the OW pro’s who jumped ship to VALORANT are either sub-100 views or already back to LFT in OW
I never said kill WoW. I said they would have serious competition. Valorant bled players away from Overwatch. FF bled players from WoW. Some players just straight up unsubbed. Classic helped ramp up numbers but it’s not a permanent fix.
If anything, WoW is likely to kill itself. If they keep on introducing convoluted and unbalanced systems that nobody asked for, if they keep ignoring tester feedback during Alpha/Beta, if they keep ignoring player feedback during live, if they keep prioritizing profit over quality, then other MMOs won’t even have to try and compete - they will straight up win by default.
Blizzard really needs to wake up. Unfortunately, money talks and as far as Bobby and Co. are concerned, larger profits through transactions are enough.
Wowhead doesn’t spoil anything, they clearly mark all story content as potential spoilers, even quest stuff that I would consider extremely minor. Unless you consider headlines about a cinematic existing a spoiler. But if ‘datamined cinematic featuring Sylvanas’ is a spoiler to you because never in a million years would you have thought that the expac could have a cinematic with Sylvanas in it… I don’t know what to tell you, sorry.
Oh yes I did expect a cinematic but I don’t want it to be datamined and it’s not just a headline has a big picture of the cinematic as a thumbnail! datamining is equivalent to groups out there stealing movies and putting them on a website.
But if there is no time gating to stuff like this in the first place I believe there would be no issue but it is designed this way to drag on subs.
