Is there a better addon to use to configure timers and special announcements? I’m trying to disable the voice alerts completely and to just have text. Also to get better looking timers as they look quite bland - can I combine large and small timers or is it best to seperate them?

Some people prefer BigWigs. I personally haven’t tried it.
By default, DBM and BigWigs show timers for pretty much all boss mechanics. Depending on which role (tank, healer, DPS) you play, a lot of those timers won’t be all that important. You really need to customize which boss timers you actually want to see and you might also add custom sound effects to improve recognizability; otherwise you’ll get overwhelmed with useless information.
Both DBM and BigWigs have an option somewhere to combine the 2 timer bars into 1. I prefer to combine them, because I don’t pay too much attention to timers anyway, but it’s a matter of taste.
Why you prefer visual timer over voice?
Voice is always better.

has it come to this that you need addon’s to be able to play raid’s/mythic+ .
Raids and mythics designed considering some addons.
I’ve changed over to BigWigs/LittleWigs but I can’t seem to get rid of the messages for enemy mob castbars. Disabling messages just does that: disables all messages. I can turn off voice sounds but might change over to DBM.
