DBM Creator ''DBM is set to drop below even being sustainable as full time work starting next month''

If the addon is to continue, he now needs alot more support than ever. To me this is grim news, and i use DBM myself.

I think this one is still going if that one ends?

It’s been a somewhat regular thing with DBM, for quite a few years now, back when the person working on it had some medical issues, iirc?

DBM isn’t going anywhere. It’ll change from full-time development to part-time. Did you even read the statements regarding this?

https://www.patreon.com/posts/id-like-to-clear-58974318

to be precise. There’s a tl;dr at the bottom, that says:

  1. DBM isn’t nor will it ever go away as long as I draw breath. I always plan to work on it to best of my ability and availability.
  1. I just hope you’ll continue to support me so level of that availability doesn’t change, because I’d rather be doing that than splitting time with something else.
  1. I’m no millionaire, never was and never will be, and that’s perfectly fine. I just want to make mods and take care of my mom without worrying about stuff. That’s my only ask.
  1. What’s going on at Activision is a travesty and I’m not trying to take attention from it. On contrary, I want to put MORE eyes on it for all the content creators out there that get chastised for sticking with blizzard even at risk to their actual livelihoods, because they believe in what they do.

Supporting a product you regularly use, especially when it’s being developed by very few or even just a single person is a great thing and I applaud it.

But stick to the facts and perhaps let the authors speak for themselves, rather than stating that the addon would not continue, if they didn’t get ā€œa lot more support than everā€.

So what that person wants is more money, what a scoundrel.

I know blizzard have one but a more detailed one and it’ll be perfect.

Yes, BW will still be working.

That said the reason i dislike this is because i have tried BW and i don’t like the way it handles info / announcements the same DBM does. But DBM does it better.

That’s the addon dev that makes probably more money than any other addon but still wants more because it’s ā€˜a lot of work’ haha yeah I doubt it’s 40/hrs a week averaged throughout the year but from Patreon alone without actually seeing what Tiers people are on they probably make 2-3k a month minimum from that, then some more from donations… THEN whatever Overwolf is paying them from revenue and whatever deal he mentioned cutting with them at the start that’s supposed to be paying more than Twitch did.

Not sure why he continues to expect to make TONS of money off this addon that cannot by Blizzards ToU be monetized.

He mostly seems upset Limit dropped him earlier this year because he wasn’t keeping up with demand and all the stuff they wanted implemented to help them with their race stuff. There’s probably a reason a lot of the top end guilds switched over to Bigwigs honestly.

imagine using dbm xd lmao

Well said. I think a lot of people tend to read a title and not what is going on.

I think the biggest issue for addons like DBM is that they tend to get short term support from users.

Well, there are still alternatives out there even if DBM does go under. The sad truth to the matter is that even if you have millions of people using your addon, you’ll make dimes at most. There’s no real reason for anyone to support addon creators monetarily (other than the kindness of their heart), which is why addons are merely passion projects for most.

You completely misrepresented what the guy said.
