Hey guys,
I have not had the time to push m+ a lot this season but in s3 I played a lot. I noticed that going into s4 the dbm interrupt warning for the fishstick casts in gambit is not working anymore. Also in dungeons like tazavesh it does not warn for some ‘‘must-interupts’’. Why I can understand if they maybe did not update to include everything of the added dungeons yet, I am puzzled as to why the warnings in gambit do not work anymore going into the new season.
I am aware I could switch to bigwigs but if there is an easy fix I’d rather stay with my current setup.
I wonder if blizzard are cracking down on these sorts of addons.
They’re president uses ElvUI and weakaura’s and the UI revamp is pretty much getting the common uses for those sorted, gotta wonder if they’re making bosses more readable and cracking down on addons that help you with them.
The games’ taking a drastic turn in direction and audience, so I really wouldn’t be surprised.
the Fated system means they can invest more money into bespoke boss animations too, so I reckon fights will be much more exciting but readable going forward.
I have mixed feelings.
One the one hand it’s actively helping with the boss fight… on the other it’s only giving you the info that other games’ boss fights would give you anyways.
Thanks again to Noana to give the answer I actually needed. This was meant to be a practical question, not a whole philosophical discussion about whether or not these addons are good or bad.
To give my 5 cents on it: I greatly encourage any attempt by Blizzard to make the game less addon dependent and would play without them if their policy on this changes. However as things currently stand there are many things in both raids and dungeons that are poorly telegraphed visually. Combine this with the fact that in m+ there tends to be an overreliance on tanks to do virtually all interrupts and mechanics even up to decently high rio, it is currently a great help in sorting information as there are 7 different things I need to keep track off every pull as tank.
Also, I did already time+21 keys without using the addon at all since the start of S4 so I do know the dungeons well enough to play without. It feels more like a quality of life thing to me at the moment than an absolute necessity.
That’s because you’re supposed to read the boss animations to know what they’re about to do, Wow has some of that with some bosses, but it’s nowhere near as frequent.
FF’s bosses all work as individual and fun bosses and people still run years later just because it’s a fun fight.
I don’t think many people look at bosses like Huntsman Altimor from Nathria and think “I’d love to fight that boss again”.
Also FF is a linear experience, so by that point in the game the devs know what most players are capable of and can make challenging fights with that in mind, Wow can’t do that, Sepulcher of the first ones could be someone’s first ever raid.
Buuut i’ll shut up now, I’m not here to draw comparisons between two games I love, lest I spark another argument.
I’m hoping they adapt Plater tbh, it’s not totally necessary but seeing who I’ve got aggro’d by the colour of their health bar makes tanking feel so much nicer.
It shows you which abilities the boss is going to use, and it does not show you how to avoid them. It merely warns you when an ability happens, and if you are the target of an ability it highlights it for you (which the base game does as well by the way.)
As far as I know Final Fantasy has its very own ‘DBM’ as well, so yes, there are other MMOs out there with these type of mods.
One reason why DBM is so popular because WoW’s visual indicators for abilities are outright terrible.
Yes, there’s a bit of a “look the other way so long as you don’t mention it” mentality in regards to UI addons that are strictly for customisation, but anything computational that helps with fights or shows info that other players on playstation wouldn’t have access to, it’s an outright ban if you’re caught with it.
They are fine to use, as long as you use it for yourself. Regardless that does not change the fact that they exist, and people do use them.
FF14’s situation is fundamentally different from WoW though. There every sort of mod is being actively witchhunted by the community, including QoL mods.
Aye, it’s a weird one, both games are at opposite extremes…I’m all for QoL addons, but if they’re going to be crushed then the least that the dev team could do is issue a statement asking if people want it to be implemented etc
Different games, but the bulk of the playerbase who play now are ex-wow players. My general experience with a lot of wow players is that they despise addons in most form.
FF14’s policy gives fuel to the fire, so they feel compelled to “protect” their game from said “evil” addons.
But I think this is going a little off topic now. I still feel that most people generally mis-understand how the addon work and what its function is. It can break at times as well, which results in the issue OP mentioned.
